Lockdown Week 12, Lava Lamp, Midnight Feasts And Sunflowers Our Weekly Photos – Week 24

Goodbye

Sunflowers

And here we are another week in lockdown. How are things going this week? What have you been up to and giving you all a social distanced hug? Lots of things going on in the background this week, which I won’t mention on here, it’s been a bit of an up and down week. How are you doing this week?

Well here we are at week 12, you can catch up on last week here weekly post. On Saturday Aria decided that we were both wearing dresses, just because. Let’s face it, by the time we can go out and about, we’ll both have outgrown our dresses lol. We decided to have some science fun and the boys and Aria and I made some lava lamps that I’d see on last wee’s post of Sim’s Life and Really Missing Sleep. Both wonderful bloggers I’ve known for years. We also made some teeny tiny ones to keep and some calming jars. I’ve left a link to the later if you want to make your own. Aria’s photo is from Saturday. I got some yummy retro and pick and mix treats delivered as a wee surprise for the kids and us adults. We ate them happily while we watched the Dora film. She has grown up a little from those days of pre-school, but it was quite funny and a fun action film for the family. I also got a lovely delivery from a dear friend of Robert’s and I of some condensed milk. This week has gotten away from me, but I will be making fudge very soon. We had a nice little take away in the evening and Robert and I watched some tv while the kids played upstairs. It was nice to get some downtime. We watched the last Killing Eve episode, I am not sure about the ending to that one. We also watched some Blacklist and Schitt’s Creek. Anything you’d recommend?

Sunday was slightly later start. Aria and I played outside for a while. She played with her doll and pram. The boys and I transferred the sunflower seedlings over to their new home. What do you think of our little sunflower challenge above? We are going to paint our little container too. The kids have theirs marked to see how to grow the biggest. I did a fair amount of editing. Going through the sentence structure, filler words, etc. A bit like the fine-tooth comb bit. Hopefully, worth it, but it seems to be taking forever. The weather was nice, still not roasting but dry so the kids got to go outside. I fixed the bin shed that a few slats had blown off of a few weeks ago. It is quite satisfying hammering nails into planks of wood. Then there was the Tesco delivery which was nice, we have food and some more editing and reading in the evening.

It was back to work and school on Monday. It is nice having those few days off. Aria was feeling a little overwhelmed by her school work. It wasn’t that much as she’s only 7, but if she’d just do it then that would be that. There were a few tears, snot and tantrums, that was just me. lol. Eventually, we had a compromise and she did some work and I managed to answer some work calls. All was right in the house again. The boys have been getting on with theirs and I’ve been checking in with their stuff. The boys had some football training outdoors that was dry at least. They are enjoying having a it more space to play, but it’s just not the same without the teammates is it? I did my writing rejection course in the evening which was really interesting and looking forward to next week.

Tuesday, Tyler has been having some fun things going on in his school work this week. They are in P7 so the end of primary and this time before the school holidays is when they have wind-down of leaving dinners, services, fun with their buddies and all the things that allow them to be fun primary school before being the little fish in the big school. They have done all the work they need to, so their teacher has set up a fun camp. Monday night was build a den and have a midnight feast. This was very exciting. As you can see from the photo above, Tyler was getting in on the action and taking his school work very seriously. It is really nice to see them being encouraged to do some fun things as well as all the academic in these strange and difficult times. They also had to see how many pairs of socks they could get on in a minute. He managed 10, not bad. Aria was still not happy with her school work, but another day of muddling by with work and school balance and we got a happier girl by the end of the day. Tuesday was also my 20th anniversary from when I started at Why Settle the IT company I work in. I’ve changed jobs over the years there from being a software developer to Operations Manager and everything else in between. My life has changed, I met my husband there, we’ve had 3 kids, I’ve lost family and it’s been lots of ups and downs, but all in all it’s been a great company to work for and even when I have bad days that are stressful, I can’t imagine working anywhere else. It was strange not being in the office, but I did get lots of nice messages via Teams.

Wednesday we did some videos for saying goodbye from the P7’s to their school. Aria made the poster above to say goodbye to her P7 buddy. It is hard on all kids up and down the country, but it is good everyone is trying to make sure of the technology and resources we have to make it as good as it can be for these kids and the teachers too. The weather was really rubbish and the rain bounced off the ground. It was horrid. Robert hasn’t been feeling well, he has a lot of stress on him just now and his ME has flared up. I hate to see him in so much pain and wish I could do more to help. It’s hard. Work was really busy, but the kids got through their school work quite quickly and played on some consoles since the weather was so bad. I did some editing in the evening. I am trying and have taken some time away from social media this week. I think we may all have done that. It’s been a tough week on social media, hasn’t it?

Almost at the end of the week. It feels like it’s been such a long week and it’s only Thursday. It was a super busy working day, kids did school work all fine. I think the camp one was a scavenger hunt today, so that was fun. Tyler got a call from his teacher about his trip up to high school next week. They are going in for an hour to see the place, which isn’t the same as their usual induction and they will be the only ones there, but it’s better than nothing and the most will be made of it. He was really pleased to hear from his teacher. Although, I’m not sure kids really know how to talk on phones these days. I had a parent council zoom meeting in the evening.  I am getting used to these zoom meetings. I am still painfully shy, but it’s a little easier.

And it’s Friday. I am so glad it’s the end of the week. I have lots of planning to do for a few things next week. The kids have a wee break from school work and only a couple of weeks to go before end of the school year for us. I worked away, nipped out to get some blood taken. It was like a holiday. Just a change of scenery and some peace for an hour. My blood pressure dipped so I had to stay elevated for a bit and then I was ok. Finishing up work and the kids are outside playing. Hoping to pick up some bits at the shops and get some more editing done at the weekend. The food order is placed and hopefully some chilling too. What are your plans for the weekend? I hope you have a magical one. See you next week.

We have had the same thought about our daughter’s “nice clothes”. They grow so rapidly that they will have well-and-truly grown out of them by the time there is any occasion to actually wear them to again! Lava lamps must be fun to make. #MySundayPhoto

Loving the sunflower challenge Susan! And why not wear dresses (not my kind of thing, truth be told!). Plans for the weekend? A couple of socailly distanced playdates for the kids (we can do that down south) but that’s it. I don’t expect those plans to change for some considerable time!

Sending a huge hug to Aria – it’s so tough for the little ones to keep up with this new way of working. Tell her she’s doing great ! Love the sunflowers and the school camp idea sounds great too. Top marks to the teachers ! Wow, 20 years at work – I’m about the same and you do get a real sense of almost family with your co-workers 🙂

Whoop! 20 years, what stamina. I’m on 13 so I know how nice it is to have that familiarity.
We were fairly confused by the end of Killing Eve too, bit of a damo squib really.
Love the sunflowers and lava lamps, I made some with Beavers last autumn and ours is still in a jar on our windowsill I the kitchen.
Looks like you had a fab week. Hope next week is good too. But roll on the school holidays so we can put down the stress of home learning.

Congratulations on your 20th work anniversary, I don’t think I’ve worked in any occupation from more than 8 years at a time. I’m growing sunflowers also, so far only 1 has survived, I see some of my neighbours have them at 5ft high already, must’ve been planted earlier and in a green house. I’m limited with what I can wear due to only having one suitcase of clothes and some winter stuff, but I’ve been getting maximum wear out of the few dresses I have with me

Good luck on the sunflowers. True about not being able to play with teammates. I haven’t played basketball recently as there is no one to play it with. It’s so good of the teachers to balance out schoolwork with activities. Happy work anniversary!

Congratulations on your 20th anniversary of working for the same company. Home school is hard especially for little ones as they miss their peers and that classroom setting so much. Sometimes I find it helps to take a break for a day or two or simply to go at things from a different angle (such as counting shopkins rather than counting numbers for example).

I’m sorry Rob is struggling with his ME – it’s not an easy thing to tackle I know…
