Be Safe On Local Roads with simple tyre care tips

24th January 2020 By Susan Mann 2 Comments

Driving your vehicle without caring for your tyres – is a ticking time bomb because bad tyres are eventually going to compromise your safety.

If you live in a region with difficult terrain and unpredictable weather conditions, it is very important to regularly monitor the quality of your car tyres for a good motoring experience.  In regions like Scotland where the land surface is usually rugged as it lies in mountainous terrain, there is a high chance of expected wear and tear in your vehicle tyres.  Places like Dundee, which fall in the East Coast of Scotland experience mild temperature with unpredictable weather conditions like frequent rainfall. Therefore, living in such regions requires motorists to be extra alert on not just maintenance of their vehicles but also taking good care of their car tyres.

Why is tyre pressure important?

Taking regular care of your tyres is very important, as it is as essential as regularly checking vehicle oil and its engine.  Driving on rugged surface entails, that your vehicle tyre should be made of good quality rubber so that when it is in contact with the uneven surface it has excellent rolling resistance. A motorist should hence have a proper check on tyre pressures and should note that tyres are not over or under-inflated. Tyres that are highly overinflated exert extra air in them causing uneven rolling with the road surface, thus causing an unpleasant driving experience. On the other hand, tyres that are under-inflated do not contain proper air pressure in them and can get flattened causing an unexpected puncture in between driving, stranding a motorist in the middle of nowhere. This is because such tyres may not have proper resistance quality with the jagged surface.

Importance of tread depth

Moving on, another important concern for a motorist should be a regular check on the tread depth of his car tyres. In areas with frequent rainfall, there is a high chance of roads getting wet. Good tyres have an approximate tread depth of around 16mm which not only help tyres properly contacting the difficult road surface but also helps in keeping the water out of tyre on wetlands.  If you feel your tread depth is not accurate, and significant wear and tear have been caused to the tyres, you should think on the lines of getting new tyres. Luckily in local areas like Dundee, there are many professional tyre providers – and you can purchase tyres by being in your budget limit. One such place to buy tyres in Dundee is Fife Autocentre – they will offer you tyre fitting aswell.

Also, if your tread depth of tyres is low then there is a high chance of tyre absorbing water in them and thus causing your tyres to worn out quicker than expected.  Therefore, with proper tyre pressure checks and tyre balancing it is also important to have regular care of your car tyre tread depth to avoid unpleasant delays in driving. Purchasing good quality tyres can be quite a hectic task, however, if approached to a reliable garage service your problem will be solved quickly giving you a smooth driving experience and assurance of road safety.
