It’s been a bit of an up and down week since last week’s weekly post with some illness in the household. How has your week been?
Last weekend Tyler went to ice-skating on Friday night. He didn’t have football on Saturday morning so made the most of it by going with his friends. I got some really good feedback from the literary agent working on my Preparing for Submissions course, so I was pleased about that. One step closer.
We got a bit of a long lie on Saturday, but Lucas and I were up and out for a contact lens teaching session for him. He is getting a bit closer each time, but still not there. His prescription is long-sighted and not ideal, but he wants to keep going. Let me tell you a funny thing, well now it is, I went to New Look to try on a jacket. I ended up getting stuck in it as the zip burst. I was panicking and had to get Lucas to help me out of it. Honestly, what a nightmare. The afternoon we took Aria swimming and Lucas went to friends. I wasn’t feeling too hot and while Aria, Tyler and I were watching The Grinch I fell asleep. I’ve never done that before.
Sunday morning we went to watch Lucas play football. He scored and had a great game despite it being very muddy, they went on to win. I still wasn’t feeling great and neither was Aria and Lucas. She still wanted to go to gymnastics, but we all went to bed when we came home.
It was a wet and misty morning on route to football and I passed the sight above from the car, I had to stop and take the photo. It really sums up the word dreich for our Scottish weather, but even when miserable, it still looks beautiful, don’t you think?
On awaking Monday morning, I wasn’t feeling great, sore throat and sore head all down one side. Lucas and Aria weren’t feeling well. They both stayed home with my Mum while I went to work. Tyler wasn’t feeling too hot but went to school. Aria didn’t move off the couch all day. Poor Tyler went to football himself and it was a fight to get Lucas to stay home and rest, but he did. I did the last evening of my Preparing for Submission writing course. It’s been a great course and I’m going to miss it, I’ve learned a lot in just a few weeks.
Tuesday, Lucas went back to school. Tyler had a school trip to a victorian school, transport museum and tall ship. He had the best time, but when I picked him up from school he’d told me how terrifying the Victorian school was and the fact they had the belt. He did like the way they taught him to right there. I explained I too was terrified when I went there in Primary school. It was nice to hear all about it. I dropped him off and went to get Lucas for another contact lens teaching session. We were a bit early so we went for some coffee, tea for him and some cake. I had the rainbow cake above, doesn’t it look fab? It tasted great too. A nice wee treat and a blether with Lucas before another go at the lenses. That evening we went out to watch the local fireworks display. We got some chips to each and watched them from the warmth of a car. It is a tradition of ours and one we all enjoy.
Wednesday, Aria was feeling a bit better and wanted to go back to school. When she came home she couldn’t wait to tell me about a ring she was given from a wee boy in her class that loved her. How sweet. Let’s hope it’s not some family heirloom. This made me smile after the longest meeting in history at work. Ok, slight exaggeration, but it felt that way. We captured a perfect autumn leaf as Aria told me. We had to take a picture in the one above. Autumn leaves falling in their pretty colours are just the best.
Work has been long and busy this week. Still, lots going on behind the scenes. And I’ve not felt great this week, headaches, sore throat, etc. On Thursday evening, it was Tyler’s high school open evening. He got to go round some of the classes, hear from teachers and try out some new things. It was lovely to see him there and he really enjoyed it too. It was quite late when we got home, both tired and Aria was sound asleep.
And now we are back on Friday. It’s a nice day outside, the sun is shining, but so cold I had to scrape the inside of my car windscreen before dropping the kids at school and me off to work. I am so glad it’s the weekend. What are your plans?
The school trip to the victorian school, transport museum and tall ship sounds like a lot of fun. Love the misty photo
I loved it as a child too, it’s the one trip that sticks out in both mine and my husband’s memories. Thank you xx
Sounds like you have had a fun week. I love love love the misty photo. And that cake – WOW.
Thank you for linking up to #SilentSunday x
Aww thank you. It was a great cake xx
Sorry to hear you’ve all been feeling poorly this week. Hope you are back to normal soon. That sounds really positive feedback on your writing!
Well done to Lucas for persisting with the contact lenses. My son is long sighted too and started wearing them just before he left primary school. He wore them for about three years, then he started wearing them intermittently and he eventually stopped altogether. His eyesight has improved a bit, so he just wears glasses at school sometimes now.
Thanks lovely. It was positive and good. He is trying. It is hard going for them. Any tips? xx
That misty photo is incredible – very atmospheric!!
Thank you xx
What fab photos!
It sounds like Lucas is doing really well with the contact lenses.
Oh dear. So sorry but that did make me chuckle about getting stuck in a jacket. That’s the type of thing that happens to me.
Aww! How sweet for Aria to be given a ring of a boy.
I hope you are all feeling better now x
He is getting there, but takes so long. lol I know I would have too. Thanks lovely xx
sorry to hear you’ve all been unwell this week, hope everyone has fully recovered by now. Good news from your literacy agent for you.
Thank you. All much better xx
I so love it when kids find joy in the simplest things. My son found a leaf he particularly liked yesterday and really I should have taken a photo of it. The simple pleasures we can all enjoy if we take the time 🙂
They really do and it’s lovely. Aww bless him. It is the moment xx
That misty photo is stunning!
I keep meaning to try to make a Rainbow cake! Might give it a go this week.
Sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well. Getting stuck in the jacket did make me smile (sorry!) but glad you managed to get out of it.
Aww thank you. It is really nice to eat and make. Thanks you, I am glad I got out xx
I remember my first car I had to scrape the inside ice off. Brrr. We had our first frost of the year the other day.
Glad Aria’s feeling better.
It is crazy isn’t it? It’s a new car too. Thanks hon x
That misty photo is magical; it looks like anything could happen. I took my daughter to the Living North fair at the weekend; she had found some rainbow cake last year and was looking forward to trying it again but we couldn’t find any this year. It wa really busy and got a bit TOO crowded so we didn’t stay long. Sorry you folks haven’t been feeling well, I hope you feel better soon. My husband can’t seem to shake off his coughing and sneezing tho the rest of us had a couple of miserable days and then recovered.
Glad you got out of the jacket eventually, bless you!
It was a lovely moment. rainbow cake is the best. Thanks. I am glad I got out the jacket too. I hope your husband is feeling better cx
Aria just looks more and more grown up each week Susan. Aw sorry you have been hit with the Winter germs, and bless you I bet you were panicking being stuck in the jacket !! What a nightmare x
Oh she is changing so much these days. Thank you xx
I know how you feel. My heart starts racing very fast when my zip is stuck and even faster when it comes off. Aria looks lovely as always and the autumny misty view is lovely. Tuesday was a busy day. Using a belt? Woah. Contact lens teaching session? What’s that?
It is crazy isn’t it? I am not afraid of zips. Yeah, it was used before I went to school. They teach the kid to take contact lens in and out. It is really good, but he can’t get them until he is happy with using them xx
Aria is so photogenic, she has the hair colour to die for.
The second photo is absolutely stunning, what a view!
And the cake looks delicious too.
She loves getting her photo taken. I know I love the colour too. Thank you x
I remember middle daughter doing the Victorian School and being left handed came across their wrath.
Oh dear at everybody not being well, hope people are improving.
Glad you have enjoyed the writing course.
It is crazy isn’t it. It’s the one thing that sticks in my head about the school trip too. Thank you xx
That rainbow cake looks amazing! Love Aria’s little face in the first photo x
It was so good xx
We’ve also had an attack of the germs in this house as our little man was really poorly over the past week. I too have hit the sofa and snoozed a fair amount this week – it’s just that time of year isn’t it? Such beautiful autumnal photos of your little lady and what an amazing rainbow cake! Thanks so much for linking up and for sharing your snaps with #MySundaySnapshot xxx
Oh dear. I hope your son is better soon. Big hugs. Thank you xx
That’s an amazing rainbow cake – bet it was yum! #MySundaySnapshot
It was so good xx
You really captured the essence of the season in your photos. Beautiful! So sorry to hear that you and the children weren’t feeling well, I hope you are doing a lot better now. Glad to hear that the submission course is going well, and despite being so busy, you are staying on it. Well done!!
