Working in IT, I know that living in the digital world we live, it is important that both kids and adults learn how to type. It can be a lot of fun and doesn’t have to feel like a chore. Not only will it help them learn a lifelong skill, but it will help with dexterity in movement and help keep those fingers active later in life too.
There are lots of games to play at learning to type for both kids and adults, which are far more than how I learned to touch-type with a piece of paper over my hands and keyboard in Office and Information Studies. How did you learn to touch type?
I thought it would be a good idea to find out who in our house could type the fastest. Not that we are competitive at all. However, the kids often ask me how I can type so fast. I tell them I practised and practised and type constantly in my job and out of the job too. I reckon I have extremely fit fingers.
So, who wouldn’t want to pitch each other to the test and try to win at who can type the most accurate words in the shortest time? We have been using the Fenetic Wellbeing Typing Test. Not only does it get your fingers nimble, but it also helps you tone up your memory by recognising the location of the keys you need to press.
Choose your category, warm up your brain and get ready to type as many words as you can in 60 seconds. The categories cover everything from art, sports, tv shows, history and more. It can be played on your mobile device, anywhere and anytime. It helps keeps your brain sharp preventing cognitive decline.
The kids love it and it helps with spelling too. A win-win in my eyes. Each category starts with simple words and then goes on to more complex the faster you type. Great fun for all the family.
It’s free, fun and I’d love to know how many you got if you give it a go? How many words could you type? Have you played #TypeToTheTest?

Hi Susan, I have never learned to touch-type although it’s something I would love to be able to do but have no idea where to start. Saying that my typing has improved a lot to my two-finger typing style when I first started blogging. I really must give this site a go!
xx
It is great fun and really easy to do. I think you should give this a go xx
