It’s been quite a busy week with lots going on since last week’s weekly photos post. Last weekend we had a football festival for one of Robert’s teams in which Tyler played. Aria and I made some cakes so we got to have the day off football. We did the last bits and pieces for back to school shopping and the kids and I watched some Family Reunion on Netflix which Tyler is really enjoying. Sunday we did some food shopping which I am not a fan of, had an early dinner. We did have some plans to go see some fancy cars, but the rain was so bad, we gave it a miss. Aria was back to gymnastics with her wee buddy. She loves gymnastics and enjoyed being back.
Robert and I were back to work on Monday. It was a long and tiring day. Football was on in the evening. The kids had been having fun playing outside with friends when it was dry. The weather has truly sucked the last two weeks, hasn’t it?
I had taken the day off on Tuesday as a last wee day before school starts. I took the kids to KFC which we don’t have very often as it doesn’t have a gluten-free option for Robert. We enjoyed it and then went to the shopping centre. Tyler got his hair cut. Aria finished reading her 6 books of the summer for the summer reading challenge run by the library. It is a fantastic way to get kids into reading over the summer. They have some incentives of stickers, a bag and at the end, if they read 6 or more books they get a medal. Aria, as you can see, was chuffed to bits. She also gets a certificate presented to her at school in the first few weeks back. If your kids love reading or you want to give them an incentive to read I’d recommend popping into your local library, it’s free and it’s fun. The boys read a few books too but felt too big this year for the reading challenge. They have both done them since they were around 3 and I used to read the books to them. I felt quite sad they were too old, but they are still reading and that’s all that matters. I couldn’t imagine not having a love of books. We got some magazines and sweets before heading home. I even did all the back to school ironing. I don’t do the ironing, normally Robert does it, but he’s been a bit pre-occupied this week. And we got a new iron, so it was fun to try it out. I took the boys to football in the evening and even managed a spot of editing whilst waiting.
The last day before school was Wednesday. I was working and my mum made some cakes with Aria and the boys played on their Xboxes for a bit as the weather was so bad. It had brightened up a bit by late afternoon so football was played and Aria ran around with her friends. Baths, showers, hair done and into bed relatively early for the big day.
The end of the summer is here and it was back to school. The kids looked so smart in their uniforms, well it lasts an hour, am I right? They don’t look quite as polished come lunchtime. We didn’t have any big days this year as in starting secondary or primary. Lucas went into second year at high school. All seemed to go well and I got “fine” in a text message come lunchtime. He’s a tween, for a few months still so I am taking that as a good sign. He did have a good day by the time I spoke to him in the evening. My baby boy Tyler went into his final year at primary. He is one of the youngest in the class, so it’s a big step coming up next year. I feel he’s pretty much ready for it. He has gained a lot this past year and he has a maturity about him. Aria is going into Primary 3 and she was just about bursting with excitement to go back to school and see her friends. If only you could bottle that enthusiasm and excitement for the teenage years. She had a great day and couldn’t wait to go back. The joys of being 6.
Everyone was tired come Thursday evening, even Lucas who I have never heard him in my life say he was tired. He woke up with the cold, so that did not delight in the morning. A short week of school to get us back into the routine. Football this weekend, but one game is already called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Crazy to think we are in the height of summer. Come back sunshine we miss you. How has your week been?
I am going to leave you with some wise words of wisdom my Uncle told me a few weeks ago. Ones the I feel I need to be reminded of and I think will help others. “Don’t get stressed about what you can’t control.” I think I need this on my wall. Have a good week everyone and I will catch up with comments asap.
Awww awesome photos. We are near the end of the reading book challenge. Such a great way to encourage children to read X #mysundaysnapshot
Thank you. Good luck with the reading challenge. Such a good way isn’t it? xx
You have such busy weeks! I would have thought kfc would bring a gluten free option out
#snapshotsunday
It has been a busy week. I know, right? x
I haven’t done any back to school prep yet: Absolutely. Nothing! #MySundaySnapshot
You’ll get there xx
The kids look really smart on their first day back in school and I can imagine it didn’t ast long. Well done to Aria with the reading, always a battle to get mine to read
No it doesn’t really. Although they aren’t too bad. My middle one is my least keen reader, they other two aren’t too bad x
Ahh! Back to school already! They do look so smart in their uniforms. x
They do look smart for a day or two xx
They look so smart in their new school uniforms. I hope the new term starts well for all 3.
So far so good xx
We are yet to do the big uniform shop – I’m not going to lie, I’m not looking forward to it at all. I love your little ladies colourful, rainbow tshirt. Thanks for sharing and for linking up with #MySundaySnapshot.
Yeah, it’s not much fun is it? That’s her rain jacket. x
Aw they all look so smart in their back to school photos Susan. I remember when my two used to do the reading challenge over the summer, no chance of them sadly doing it now. Very wise words from your Uncle, I am always stressing about something I can’t control. Hugs xx
Yes, my oldest won’t do it now either. He is very wise is my Uncle xx
Ahhh they look so smart 🙂
Bless. Our uniform came today, all neat and embroidered – how long will it last? haha!
Thanks for linking up to #SilentSunday x
Yes ours is embroidered too, but it has been removed in these photos xx
I can’t get N to do the library reading challenge. Last year he said yes, chose some booked and didn’t ready anything. Thiss year he’s not even attempted it. In fact, I offered him £1 a book (he negotiated up to £2 each book) completed over the summer. He’s read nothing! It drives me nuts.
Aww that is a shame. Usually the bag, medal, etc are a great incentive. I am like that with my middle boy at times xx
Your uncle is a very wise man! Such an awesome quote that we all should remember! The kids look super smart in their uniforms, hope they are enjoying being back at school! 🙂 Sim x
He is a wise and lovely mad. I think I need to put it up on my wall. Yes, it doesn’t last long xx
They look very smart and grown up, hope school is going ok #365
They do look grown up. So far so good x
First, you have beautiful children. They look great in their back to school clothes. I love your quote and need to remember that – don’t stress about things out of my control. I think that would increase my happiness quotient a considerable amount! 🙂
Aww thank you. It is a good quote isn’t it? Hope it helps xx
I think they are very wise words indeed and ones I could do with having on my wall too. They looks very smart in their school uniforms. I find it strange how different the holiday dates are between Scotland and England. I work for a Scottish company and all it means is we are shut down for around 8 weeks. Since HO have their holidays and then we have ours. Hope you are well and truly back into the routine now.
I think so too and me too. Aww thanks, yes they are different. They are back to it xx
Hi Susan, thanks for your kind comments on my blog, nice to meet you. Love the photos of your little princes and that mega-sweet princess. Great idea with the book contest at the library, well done to her on winning a medal. Have a great day, hugs, Valerie
Aww thank you. You are very welcome. I think it is a great idea too and lovely to meet you too x
Your kids are adorable! It’s lovely to be proud Queen Mother of these handsome princes and so charming little princess!
I really is lovely. Thank you.
Nice to get a KFC treat if it is not something they do very often. The 3 wee ones now quite like a McD thanks to me….oops.
They do look very smart but not for long as you say
It is nice to have a treat. Aww bless it’s just as good. xx
I agree with your uncle’s wisdom. We are thankfully not back to school as yet, but getting closer and closer. Your guys look super smart in their uniforms, and Aria is shining with enthusiasm.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the summer. She goes in very excited to see her friends xx
Love those words from your Uncle. I needed to hear that this week as I ave been stressing over something I can’t control!
Wow back to school! We don’t go back until the 4th.
Thank you. He is very wise lol. x
Every year I find it so strange that our school holidays are so different to the Scottish ones! I can’t imagine having the uniform back out already. I hope they’ve settled in again well x
It has always been the same even when I was at school. So far so good xx
The book reading challenge is exciting! I’d like that challenge for myself. Your kids look great in their uniform! It’s true, kids are more excited for college than teenagers.
Very wise words of your uncle that people tend to forget
It is such a great idea. You should totally suggest it for adults. Thank you. I think so. It is wise words xx
