Grumpy, Summer And Ice-cream Our Weekly Photos – Week 30

27th July 2019 By Susan Mann 42 Comments

Holiday

Unicorn Cake

It’s been a long week in a way as little Miss Aria hasn’t been at her best. She has been a demon spawn child on more than one occasion, but on the other hand, it has been quick and I am sure the rest of the UK will agree that it is hot hot hot! I am hoping you haven’t all melted. Since last week’s weekly photos another whole week of the school holidays has gone by and we are over halfway.  If you fancy a read at what we got up to on our Holiday in Eyemouth the post is live and filled with fun photos. I love the photo above of Aria taken from that holiday and couldn’t share it as I didn’t include it in my original post. I know it’s kind of cheating, but it’s a nice photo.

Last weekend was quite a busy one, Saturday saw Robert doing a first aid course for football and I went to my very first baby shower. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was great fun. Lots of cute little Alice in Wonderland themed treats and some games. Plus, I got to have a way overdue catch up with some lovely family. The Mum to be is keeping well and looks amazing. Now for baby to arrive and I can buy some Disney themed baby items.

Saturday evening wasn’t the quiet, take-away and drink kind of evening with Robert that I was hoping for. Instead, it was consumed with Aria having lots of tummy pain. It wasn’t a bug and seems to rear its ugly head every few weeks, but we are taking some steps to hopefully help. She was up most of the night too. In the morning seemed to be much brighter, but tired. I posted the photo of her smiling from the day before to remind me of how her face lights up when she smiles.  It was Robert’s Dad’s birthday. We all went out for dinner to celebrate and then back to Robert’s parent’s house for birthday cake and singing. Plus, Robert’s sister has a new wee puppy, so he came along too. I had the unicorn cake above, which  I felt needed to be shown. It was delicious and looked fab. My kind of cake, nothing with cream or custard.

Back to work on Monday and my Mum had the kids. It was a nice day and the kids have been having a great time out in the street with the neighbour’s kids. It feels a bit like the 80s at times.

Tuesday I had the day off. Aria was being horridly behaved and had several meltdowns. She not usually like that anymore, so it was hard going. Obviously, an angel for the Grandparents, a demon with me.  We stayed in an played about the house. Even an ice-cream didn’t cheer her up. Look at that grumpy wee face. In the evening I got some of my writing done while both boys and Robert were back to football training. Aria was outside playing.

I finally wrote THE END on my re-write. It felt strange. Like I should celebrate or something. It is not the first time I have finished this book. I did write it a few years back in the first person, but it just wasn’t right. It was my first time writing anything of real significance. I spent a lot of time doing courses, learning from books, etc and after some advice decided to re-wite. I plotted and spent a lot of time getting this right before starting the re-write. Now it is done. It doesn’t mean it is ready to send it, but it’s another step further. I have been doing an editing course this last month, so been working on editing the start. More editing and critiquing to be done. I have let a few from my wee writing group read it and meeting them on Saturday. Fingers crossed. Still, a long way to go, but here’s hoping people don’t hate it.

Wednesday and Thursday were days and they were long and hot. I had some meetings and had a lot going on at work. There is no air con and it’s so hot, but it is only a few days of the year it is unbearably hot like that. Wednesday, the kids hung out with their cousins and the new doggy so they had fun with that. On Thursday, they had a ball outside on neighbours slip n slide and paddling pool. It was the warmest day ever after all. I was feeling pretty icky by the time I got home on Thursday with the heat. The boys had football training Wednesday and went to a football match on Thursday. Lucas did really well on his first day back at training, hopefully, after doing some different types of exercises over the summer. He was very pleased with himself and that was all that mattered.

Friday was supposed to be my day off, but it ended up I worked most of the day from home. All the kids were sore and tired from all their water fun yesterday so we had a day at home. I also had Oreo for the afternoon so I and he went a wee walk. The kids played and I got some work done. I don’t know how people work from home with the kids, hats off to them.

We have a few things planned for the weekend. Robert is out Saturday, I have a writing group meetup and we are all going to a roller skating disco on Sunday. I loved roller skating as a kid, I am looking forward to that. I think the heat has taken its toll on everyone. Here’s to a cool and fun-filled weekend. What are your plans?

Sorry to hear that A hasn’t been feeling too well. Hope she is better now and you can get to the root of the problem. Loved reading that the kids play outside with the neighbours’ kids. That’s what we like as kids, but my own family has never had that.
How exciting to have finished your re-write! I hope your writing group enjoyed it and have some useful advice for you. x

She is better thank you. We are lucky we live in a street that the kids have always been able to go out and play with a big bit of grass for football. Thank you. It was helpful x

Well done on finishing the re-write – you are another step closer. It must have been quite a task to fit around work, the blog and family life. Hope Aria has a better week this week – sometimes they just have bad weeks don’t they?

Poor Aria, tummy bugs are not fun, I know I was up all night myself with one this week. I hope she’s feeling better now. It sounds like a fun week otherwise, but I agree, kids can be hard work when they are at home all day. Well done on getting your re-write finished, I wish you all the best with your book.

Aria looks so impish and full of mischief in the first photo. Sorry to hear she had a tummy ache.
Big well done on the end part of your re-write, you should definitely celebrate this step.
I was wondering what the cake was, thought it was an ice cream cake in a modernist way, with a cone attached on top, but now that you said its a unicorn cake, it kind of makes sense.

I’d love to write a book so well done you – melt downs are so difficult to deal with aren’t they? We have had a few here recently and I blame the heat. Here’s to happier days – Thanks for sharing and for linking up with #MySundaySnapshot.

Well done on writing The End! Sorry to hear you’ve had a bit of a tough time with Aria. Bizzarely, my youngest has the same leggings (not that it’s particularly relevant!). Tummy pain: Have you asked a doctor about reflux? One of our kids had simialr for a while but a short course of medication dealt with it.

Hi Susan, I don’t envy you those long school summer holidays! Testing times. On the positive side at least you have Mum nearby to help…. How exciting about your book! It sounds like you’ve been on a steep learning curve, but you’ll be bouncing off walls (with excitment) once it’s done and dusted.

Aria has every right to be grumpy in this heat, so am I. But she does have such a beautiful smile.
Sorry the heat was making you feel yucky, dehydration is often a big big problem especially if you do not have access to fluids during working hours.
Glad they are managing to still lay football despite the heat.

The heat has been hard to deal with and led to grumpy kids, especially when trying to sleep!
