Leaving Primary, Leavers Meal And Prize Giving Our Weekly Photos – Week 26

When I finished with last week’s weekly postย I mentioned it was going to be a full-on emotional week this week and to be honest, it was. However, I didn’t shed one tear, I had a huge lump in my throat and my eyes welled up with pride, but not one sad tear slid down my cheek. Do you know why? As long as my child is fine with his or her next step, I am too. I will be there every step of the way. While the going is good, I am good. Sit back and let me tell you about our week.

Robert and I did a spot of holiday clothes shopping and picked up Lucas leavers outfit he wanted child-free. It’s a rarity at the weekend, but it was too nice to go shopping, so my mum kept an eye out while they played outdoors. We even snuck in a lunch date, shhh, don’t tell the kids. It was nice. Sunday, the boys went to Combat City, think a real like Fortnite scene with laser guns, with Robert and the rest of Lucas football team. They had a blast, literally and Aria and I went to see A Wrinkle in Time. Which was an awesome film, Aria really enjoyed it and what a cast. We then made a stop at the library, which is awesome and Aria was truly delighted and excited to be able to pick up books that she could read all by herself. Her reading has come on immensely in the last year and she couldn’t believe she could pick up books and read them. Just look at that smile up above and how cool is that seat?

Monday was the start of the biggest week in Lucas Primary years, it started with the Leavers show. They really did tug at the heartstrings with photos of them as babies until now, along with their aspirations and the friendships they have made. It was a brilliant performance and one they will miss. In the evening, Lucas and his class, along with all the teachers over the years met at a nearby hotel for a sit-down meal and got their photos taken in the gardens. It was lovely. And he scrubbed up well at for his leaver’s meal, don’t you think? My little handsome dude. They had the best time.

Tuesday was a normal day at school and work. Wednesday morning had the prize giving and leaver’s service. Lucas won the Excellence in Outstanding Achievements Award. He was delighted. It didn’t stop there, they totted up the points for the houses. In all 7 years, none of the kids has been in the winning house. This year they were all in the same house with Lucas having been voted house captain. A drum roll was heard, every kids waited with bated breath and it was announced Portugal won. Lucas bolted onto that stage along with the teacher who headed the house, they won. He was so chuffed to win the shield. I thik you can tell. Once the prizes were out, they sun some songs, including a million dreams and then they were presented with their high school ties. They removed their primary ones and put those giant high school ones on. Bless!

Thursday was a million degrees or at least it felt that way in the office. Loads of pc’s and no air con, made an unpleasant working day. The kids finished for summer at lunchtime, Lucas enjoyed his last day and got his polo shirt signed by his friends. Their gran and grandpa picked the three of them up along with the twin cousins to spend the day together. Friday, today, I was off to get some packing done for our holidays.

The weekend will be filled with sunshine and get excited about our trip to California next week. I’m working Monday and Tuesday and then we are off. So, bear with me if I don’t get around to my catch up posts the next two weeks. I plan to do them, but fun and family time may take over. If I don’t I’ll be back and do two weeks. If I do, I’ll see you next Sunday.

Have a great weekend and week.ย project-365-2017-badge

What a week! I’m so glad it went well for Lucas and he didn’t cry. How amazing to win the award himself and for the house to win too! It’s lovely that they get presented with their high school ties.
How exciting that you are off to California in a few days. I hope you all have the best time! x

How exciting and nerve wracking (no doubt for you) at the same time. My eldest starts juniors this September and the thought that her infant years are all done makes me feel a little sad. I’m certainly not ready for her finishing primary school all together!!! Good luck to your lovely boy. #mysundayphoto

Hi Susan, I got goosebumps remembering the different chapters my two went through and each and every one is a big thing in its own way. The Leavers Show sounds lovely and how wonderful that teachers and pupils all go out for a meal together. It’s a sign that the children are moving on to a more grown-up time in their lives (not too quickly, I hope)… Have a fantastic time in California! Fun and family time should trump blogging every time! I look forward to reading about your trip when you get back.

    xx

Ah, sounds like Lucas had a lovely send off from primary school. I always get teary when the leavers finish from our school (they play ‘so long, farewell’ in church as they all walk – usually running) down the aisle to the back of church), even though I don’t even know most of them. Enjoy your holiday. Sounds exciting

You are stronger than I am. I cried at the parents evening last week when the teacher said my girl tried so hard with her SATs….lol I will probably cry again and again for the next 3 weeks until the holidays.

So lovely to read he seems to be ready for the next stage of his life, and how marvellous his house won the prize. Our school gave scientific calculators to the P7 leavers, but the tie is a brilliant idea.
I love reading your weekly write up’s your love for your children shines out of your blog.
That is one happy Aria on the chair
