Christmas Gift Ideas Perfect for Mums

8th December 2017 By Susan Mann 10 Comments

Christmas Gift Ideas Perfect for Mums

At times, buying for the women in your life or mum or mother in law can be difficult. You want to get them something special, something meaningful and something they will love.  What do you buy? This is a list I’ve gathered around things I’d like or I’m getting my mum, mother in law or think they’d make a great gift for another lady.

Wraps

I listen to a lot of writing podcasts, my favourite is The Worried Writer and sometimes it’s good to do this when you have a spare 20 minutes or so. Whether it’s doing the shopping, washing, chores, it’s a way to learn and be inspired while doing a normally dull activity. So, top of my wishlist is Wraps Headphones. I can wear this as a comfortable cool look accessory bracelet and then whip them out into headphones when I get that spare 5 minutes to myself. They look great, sound great and practical too. With anti-tangle storage. They come in a wide range of colours to suit all tastes. At £14.99 they make a great little gift or stocking filler.

VR Headset

Now personally, I am not a fan of these. They make my eyes go weird, but I think it’s because of the prescription I have in my glasses. We are talking milk bottle bottoms here! However, I do think these are fantastic and would a great gift. This particular one is the Bitmore® VR Eye Mini™ VR headset. Which utilises your smartphone, and is compatible with hundreds of free VR apps available online. Just load your chosen app and away you go, from the comfort of your own living room you can be transported anywhere you choose. Not just for games, but you can also watch 3D movies and more. This merges fiction and reality in the world of augmented reality anywhere you chose. It’s fun, simple, comes with its own carry case and at £15.99 I think it would make a great gift.

Bra

Bras aren’t the most comfortable of items of clothing to wear, are they? Most of us can’t wait to get home and remove these. As a large busted person myself, I know that it is a must to get a bra that not only fits and looks good, but it needs to be comfortable too. I think these Miracle Bamboo Comfort Bra from JML look and feel great. They come in three colours; white, nude and black. The fabric is silky-soft made of bamboo viscose fabric. There are no straps that need to be adjusted, no wires, but it gives excellent support. There is a removable pad, which I’ve not used, but it’s there if you want to. This one is front fastening making it easier to put on and there isn’t that area at the back, creating a smooth finish. It’s a great everyday bra.

Inside Miniature Library

As a HUGE book lover, this might be one of my all-time favourite gifts and I got it for my birthday. I love it so much, I thought I’d share it in there for others. This is the My Miniature Library by By Daniela Jaglenka Terrazzini. This comes in the format of a book, you open it up and inside is a kit to make a complete collection of 30 tiny books that you can actually read! How cool is that? The stories range from illustrated fairytales to well-loved nonsense rhymes, books of butterflies, birds and flowers, plus blank books for you to complete your own story. One day I will have my very own novel written in here. It folds out into a little room diorama with a bookcase to hold all your books. It folds shut for easy storage. It is simple to do with the easy to follow instructions and is just adorable. I love it. At £14.99 you can’t go wrong with this.

Humans vs Computers

Humans vs Computers is a book about people caught between wrong assumptions and computer bugs. Working in IT for the last 17 years, this is something that appeals to my sense of humour. It would be great for an IT geek or a fun, quirky gift for someone. There are some hilarious snippets about humans who are invisible to computers and would you know what to make your password once there’s been a zombie apocalypse?  It also covers all sorts of clever marketing tricks for technology. All created by humans. It is interesting and a fun wee read. At £9.99 for the paperback, it’s a fun little stocking filler for an adult in your life.

Wonder Writers

Many of my friends and readers will know I’m writing a novel. Well, I’ve finished the first draft, edited and I’m now re-writing it. One of my favourite writer friends whom I’ve gotten to know over on Twitter, has created Wonder Writers. Wonder Writers provides editing, proofreading, critiques on everything from Flash fiction, short stories, synopses, query letters and novels. Submission packages. They also offer a mentoring service to help get a project off the ground, work on an existing project and keep you on track. All their services are tailored to every writer and their needs. They even have gift certificates, so why not get one of these for the writer in your life? They will thank you for it. I think this would make a fantastic Christmas gift. Or if you are in need of their services in the new year, do get in touch.

Miss Boho

I am a HUGE fan of Miss Bohemia website and have purchased many items over the years. They are fantastic quality and if you are looking for a gift that is a little bit unusual, this is the place to go. She has some fantastic gifts for those who love books and coffee. Everything from mugs, to quotes and everything in between. My favourite item for this year is these adorable bookish style pendants. These are perfect for book lovers like me or those who enjoy a coffee or to. Each pendant comes in the form of a vertical bar with the words engraved on the side. They are 3cm high and roughly 0.5cm thick, on a chain of 18 inches. The bar is made of steel and silver plate. They look wonderful and are eye-catching. They come presented on a brown card which features a book related quote. Honestly, this could not be more perfect for me. At £14 each, I think they are excellent value for money and a gift you will adore. I might have to just treat myself, won’t I?

Glamoriser

As I’ve gotten older my hair has become more brittle. With fine hair as it was, it’s difficult to get the volume and blow dry without breaking my hair. I came across this little piece of brilliance  Detangle and Dry by Glamoriser. This is a detangling brush and dryer in one. It makes it simple to dry your hair and get the knots out whilst brushing your hair into a style. I have very straight and fine, so it does snap and I try not to make the dryer too hot. This uses infrared technology, but dries and styles like a normal blow dryer. It’s much easier to use too as you only need to hold one item instead of a brush and hairdryer.  The Detangle and Dry brush are infused with Black Diamond Oil on bristles and ionic technology allows me to achieve salon style smooth and slick styles from home. I love the convenience of it and it is simple to use. I am anyone but a pro when it comes to styling hair. Have a look and see what you think.

Talla Spa Scotland

Talla Spa Scotland is a localish company to me, again someone I met on twitter and I am amazed at the amazing products they produce. Talla Spa Scotland has created a luxury spa experience in your own home. We all need a little me time, but it’s hard to get it. They’ve created these products from the most amazing smelling soap to signature bath bombs, using natural ingredients and essential oils to relax or revitalise you. These are the perfect gift for some indulgence and it smells amazing.

La Torta

La Torte in Edinburgh is a fantastic little place, also created and run by a fellow blogger. She makes the most amazing cakes you can purchase online, even edible party gift bags. I defy you to look at this site and not drool. The cakes are spectacular. What I am thinking about for Christmas are Gift Vouchers, these are the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys baking or just eating those delectable cakes. You can even use the vouchers to pay towards one of the wonderful classes they run throughout the year. Do have a look at the website and see if you fancy learning something new in the New Year. I hope to go to one next year, I’d love to learn how to make some really pretty cakes, wouldn’t you?

The Joy of Mindful Writing

Next year is my year of mindfulness, well we’ll see. So, I treated myself to The Joy of Mindful Writing book. This book explores how writing mindfully can create a deeper connection to your characters and writing. Can’t-do any harm now can it? This contains exercises for meditation, anecdotes, notes and more. It’s also not just writing it works with, there are books for knitting and drawing too. These will make great little stocking fillers and help you focus on what is going to work taking your writing forward. It’s a lovely hard backed book with beautiful illustrations and space to write down your thoughts during the exercises.

Discovery Channel Smartphone Telescope

I love being able to take decent pictures with my phone, don’t get me wrong I love my camera, but being able to take them quickly in the moment with your phone is perfect. Getting close up isn’t the easiest to do and blurs, this is where the Discovery Smartphone Telescope comes in handy. The Smartphone Telescope comes with a clip to clip over to the phone camera and a tripod style stand to hold it steady. It’s simple to attach to your phone and snap away. The telescope is 11.5cm and has a 10x zoom. This would be perfect for the zoo or a day out that you just want that closer, crisper photo. At £14.99, you can’t go wrong, can you?

Photo Canvas

With photography in mind, why not get a canvas printed on a family picture or favourite place to visit? It is a lovely thoughtful gift and one that people might not give themselves. I know I rarely print pictures, so this to me would be special. Have a look through your photographs today of a picture that includes a mum in your life and get it uploaded to create a personalised canvas print.  A gift to cherish always. There are various different sizes and styles to suit everyone’s tastes to match their decor. Check out the website for other gifts around that idea.

Personalised Wine

For those that you are stuck to buy for or those that maybe like a nice bottle of wine, how about a Personalised Wine It looks fantastic and that you can choose the 75cl wine from the list Red; Chilean Merlot, Italian Merlot, Australian Shiraz, South African Pinotage and Italian Cabernet for the same price. Or Italian Barolo or French Margaux for a little extra. White is Italian Pinot Grigio, Italian Chardonnay, Chilean Chardonnay, Chilean Sauvignon Blanc and South African Chenin Blanc and White Zinfandel Rose. Then get your message added to the custom pewter label, allows 58 characters above and 40 below the wreath. This is something that I would love to give my mum as a thank you for helping out with the kids over the last while. Then, she’d make it into a candle. She’s very practical that way. At £29.99 it’s a little more expensive than a normal bottle of wine, but it looks like a great gift and one that I think my mum would appreciate.

Hard Rock Cafe Gifts

Having just had my first visit to the Hard Rock Cafe last weekend and had the best time, I couldn’t not include something from their gift selection on my list. The items can be purchased in the Rock Shop at each cafe, each one stock a different range of items or they can be bought online at Hard Rock Cafe! The new line features 10 limited-edition clothing items, from t-shirts to hoodies, hats to scarfs. There is something to suit everyone’s taste and don’t they look good. I will certainly be back for a visit to the cafe itself. The staff were outstanding. I wonder if I can add a gift card to my list?

What is on your Christmas wish list? Is there anything that I should be adding?

Disclaimer:- I was sent some of the above items as stated in the post, others I have purchased myself. I’ve not been paid further for mentioning any of these products in this post. All words and opinions are my own and the links have been included out of courtesy.

This is a really good selection! These gift guides always generally feature loads of pampering stuff, which is really not my cup of tea at all. It’s nice to see some original ideas. x
