Travelling by Train And Places To Visit

1st November 2017 By Susan Mann 8 Comments

Train Station
As the nights get darker, as autumn is rolling in, so do the post-summer holiday blues. Might you be thinking of places to go on your holidays or day trips away with the kids? I would like to remind you, as you pack away your beach towels and get ready to hibernate for the winter, that some of the best weekend breaks and days out are found here in the UK. And still so much fun over the autumn and winter. Our favourite way to travel with kids is by train. It is not only an adventure, but it’s a lot of fun being able to play and spend time with the kids while travelling. Why not have a look at what Virgin Trains has to offer and head to the train station, the portal to adventure.

Stickers
Pack up some stickers and colouring books, what about a game of hangman or noughts and crosses? A little-packed lunch with some snacks is a great way to get the kids involved and enjoying their little train journey. With life being as busy as it is these days, it’s nice to just sit back, relax and chat together on the journey. Maybe, ask the kids what they’d like to be when they grow up? Do a little mini interview and they can ask you the questions too. It’s a lot of fun, family bonding and you never know, you might find out a thing or two. Travelling by train, takes the stress out of following directions, car sickness and general bickering from the back seat. It’s an adventure for kids.  What games do you like to play on the train?
Liverpool
Liverpool is a place I’ve never been, but definitely one of the top places I’d like to visit and to visit via the train would be fab.  The city plays host to some of the most unique attractions and unrivalled in musical history. There is so much to see and do from museums to walking tours. The city is steeped in history and culture. Sounds like a brilliant place to visit.
Blackpool Tower
Blackpool
This is the perfect holiday destination for anyone craving sun, sand and… well, we can’t quite guarantee the sun, but it’s got a lot to do indoors too.  There is very little more quintessentially British than sitting in a deck chair licking melted ice cream from off your hand on an overcast day on Blackpool Pier. The fish and chips still sit heavily in your stomach as you try and relive an era bygone. This is one of our top destinations and great for sweeping those post-summer blues away. The region has undergone a bit of a facelift in recent years and looks great.
London
London

Our top of our list to visit via train would be London. There is so much to do for both kids and adults. Harry Potter Studio tour is a must for us. There are so many great places to visit, there really is no place like this on earth. From the London eye to duck tours and why not visit Hamleys for a spot of shopping. There are many parks for those that want to burn up some energy.

With all these glorious places in the UK, it really is baffling why we are not jumping on Virgin trains and travelling to all these great places. Let me know your favourite spots in the UK?

Hi, I used to love travelling by train when I was little, not so much now as I am often stuck on a busy train. A great way to start a day out for children though #MondayStumble

I love train travel too! My favourite places to visit by train are London and Bristol. Sadly we don’t get as many days out as I would like, thanks to the kids’ endless sport!

Train travel is definitely my favourite way to travel now. We have done a few journeys with the kids to London and Edinburgh, both with Virgin who were excellent x

We love travelling by train – as long as we book and get a seat!
I remember heading to Edinburgh on a Virgin train from Birmingham when my oldest was very small. I think you are right in that you need to plan ahead and make it an adventure.
