Simple Christmas Tree Crafts For Kids

10th November 2017 By Susan Mann 10 Comments

Kids Christmas Tree Decorations

So Halloween was sooooo last month. Well, what can I say, it’s nearly Christmas. Yes, yes I used the C word and I love it. So, let’s break out the glitter and tinsel and make some Christmas crafts. This month our craft box for Tots100 #BostikBloggers is all about Christmas.

Simple Christmas Tree Crafts For Kids – Art Straw Tree Decoration

rt Straw Christmas Tree Items

What you’ll need:-

  • Bostik Foam Pads or the Glu Stick worked out better in the end
  • Scissors
  • Art Straws (we used red and green)
  • Ribbon or twine for hanging

Tree Base

Step 1

This craft is so simple, my little girl who is 4 loved making these. First get two art straws and stick them together. This is the base of your tree.

Cut the straws

Step 2

If your little one is small, why not cut the straws up for them, or use child scissors. Cut the straws into different lengths so they form a triangle shape.

Building Tree

Step 3

Lay them out so your little one can start to stick them on.

Adding the cut straws

Step 4

Start adding the cut straws, the smaller ones to the top. We tried using the Bostik pads, which worked ok, but then switched to the Bostik glu which gave a better finish.

Building up the tree

Step 5

Keep adding the straws, getting bigger each time. If you want to add more straws, then that’s fine.

Cut excess straws

Step 6

Trim the excess straws at the end.

Add String

Step 7

Add in the string, ribbon or twine. We found this worked better by using the pads inside the top of the straws.

Step 8

Let it dry, then decorate if your child wants to. We added a sticky snowflake, it was sparkly after all.

Step 8

There you have our art staw Christmas tree. What do you think? We plan to make more of when our tree goes up.

What you’ll need:-

  • Bostik Fine & Wide Glu Pen
  • Green Cardboard
  • Decorations
  • Scissors

Fold over paper

Step 1

This is another simple craft, but if your little one isn’t good with scissors why not cut out for them and let them decorate. Fold over your card.

Cut into triangle

Step 2

Cut into a triangle with the folded edge being the straight one.

Cut out triangles

Step 3

Cut out a small triangle in at the folded side.

Cut out on each side

Step 4

Cut out triangles on both sides, but make sure you don’t go right across.

Cut all the way down

Step 5

Cut all the way down like above.

Cut Out Tree

Step 6

When unfolded it looks like this.

Add the decorations with Bostik Glu

Step 7

Time to decorate. Use whatever shiny, glittery decorations you have and glue them on.

Decorations

Step 8

We added on lots of sequence type decorations.

Adding Ribbon

Step 9

Lastly, we glued on a bit of ribbon. Let it dry and fold it again.

Step 10

Here is our finished Cut out Tree Decoration. My little girl loved this and has it up in her room as her very own Christmas tree.

Simple Christmas Tree Crafts For Kids – Book Christmas Tree

Book Christmas Tree Items

What You’ll Need:-

  • An Old Book
  • A Clip (optional)
  • Decorations (optional)

Remove Cover

Step 1

Open the book and remove the cover from the book. My little boy is a huge fan of making these and has made loads.

Folding the Book

Step 2

To start, fold the top outside corner to the inside of the book like above.

Fold over book

Step 3

Then fold the top corner into the spine again. A bit like making a paper aeroplane.

Child Book Folding

Step 4

Tyler showing off his book folding skills. Use a clip to hold your pages away.

Holding the pages

Step 5

Keep folding. It’s simple, easy and fun.

Concentrating on folding

Step 6

Tyler showing you how easy it is.

Book Folding

Step 7

Keep folding until you’ve completed the book. If it’s a large book, I’d split in half.

Open out book

Step 8

Folded book. Let it spring open.

Book Tree

Step 9

Open the book up and bend the spine round so it stands up in a tree shape. This is you done.

Add base

Step 10

We added ours to a shiny gold base to make it a little more Christmassy. You can leave it as is, or add some decorations.

Book Tree Decoration

Step 11

We cut out a star and stuck it on, along with a cold piece of string. Tyler stuck this on with the Bostik Glu Pads. We have so much fun making these and we think they look amazing. What do you think of the book tree? They are so much simpler than you think.

I really miss Christmas craft time with my children now they are grown up pretty much! Though this year, I really want to make time for doing some just me, if no-one else wants to join me!

I am so impressed by Tyler’s patience with the folding too! If I can be as patient I might well try this too! xx

Some lovely ideas here. My kids enjoyed painting and decorating a massive Christmas tree last year. I’m hoping to top it this year – a tree they can cut and glue onto would go down well. Thanks for sharing.
