Danger! The contents of the Nickelodeon Sludge ‘n Slime are radioactive! Lots of fun.
We are huge fans of science experiment kits in our house. I grew up with my dad being a scientist, so chemistry sets always excited me. However, my dad made me write up my experiments and explanations. It was something he did. But, I’ve loved passing on my love for science to the boys. Having lost my dad it makes me feel like I’m bringing a bit of him to the boys. Tyler, who is 8 is obsessed with slime, its the latest craze after all, so The Nickelodeon Sludge ‘n Slime set is perfect for kids.
Within The Sludge ‘n Slime box contains two handy cardboard trays. The trays contain the materials and ingredients you need to do six different experiments. The first box contains a pair of goggles and gloves for protecting your eyes and hands. Also, it has cups, measuring cup, pipettes, tubs, test tubes and wooden sticks.
The second tray contains the chemicals needed, along with some cornflour and food colouring.
The booklet comes with a wealth of information on science with a periodic table, that’ll bring back some school memories for some of us, and it’s interesting too. The booklet also contains the instructions for 6 experiments, step by step. Make an invisible monster, slimy snakes, sludgy goo, multiplying slimeballs, a slime monster and delightful slimy bogies.
We decided to go with the slime monster first up.
The first rule of science club…. make sure you are protected. Get those gloves and goggles on.
Prepare your ingredients with precision and care, following the instructions carefully. We prepared the Sodium Alginate solution, this is done by adding in warm water and shaking.
You’ve got to make sure your ingredients are correct and measured out. Concentrate and double check again.
The trays are fab for storing the items and keeping your workspace clean. Using the wooden stick, we stir the mixture. You can learn about the chemical reactions in the book and see what’s happening. The mixture should turn into a more solid mixture from a liquid as they react.
It kind of reminds me of those gummy sweets I got back in the 90’s, but you don’t want to eat this!!! Our slime monster didn’t quite turn out as we wanted. I am not sure if we didn’t make it right or measured the ingredients enough. I think we need to try it again, but that’s the beauty of this kit we can. You really need to take a lot of care and time when making this, there is a margin for error and we crossed it. We had fun and will give it a go again.
With slime being a big thing just now, this was what Tyler wanted to make. We measured the ingredients and it took Tyler a bit to be able to use the pipette, but it’s great practice for future years.
You feel like a real scientist using these items and the ingredients, it’s so exciting and fun. I love that everything is there for you in the box.
So it turns out mixing the sodium alginate and the calcium chloride dilution together, make the slimeball. It takes a bit of practice and again one that we will make again, not entirely happy with the outcome. once the slime had formed he could then squeeze them which in turn formed smaller
How cute is that? A teeny tiny slimeball. Once it’s formed though, you can squeeze it to make baby slimeballs. Now that is cool.
There are lots of other experiments to make with the set and you can make them again. I thought it was really interesting as did Tyler. We didn’t get it right the first time around, but that’s science for you. Whether or not we measured the ingredients wrong or didn’t get it right, that’s something we need to look at or if the instructions weren’t as clear, but we enjoyed it and that’s all that mattered. It’s opening the door to science and making learning fun. Helping to understand the chemical reaction in a fun and interesting way. These are aged at 8 plus, which I think this correct. Anyone younger, it wouldn’t be as useful and the chemicals would be a worry if not used correctly. It’s not dangerous, but it still requires caution. There are various different gift sets available at The Entertainer and retails at £19.99 which I think is a brilliant price, but it’s got a few offers to check out.

Disclaimer:- I was sent a Nickelodeon Experimake Sludge ‘n Slime kit for review, but all thoughts are my own.
Ohh! I don’t know what my favourite science experiment is….We did the Skittles experiment during the summer where you put the Skittles on a plate and pour water on and all the colour comes out and makes a pretty rainbow x
The coke test
Putting an old penny in a glass and pouring coca cola on it
Now -why does it come out clean and sparkly?
I remember doing the screaming jelly baby experiment in school. It’s a classic science experiment that uses potassium chlorate to oxidise the sugar in a jelly baby which results in coloured flames, smoke and a screaming sound.
I love any science excitement and I love doing them with my kids. I loved making soap and also setting your hand on fire back in school!
Has to be making farting putty! 🙂
I can’t remember any science experiments! but I would love to try some!
Magnet Putty is great fun with the kids
I loved creating a volcano which fizzed x
My Niece would love this, I asked her what she wanted for Christmas and she said slime! My favourite at school was dissecting an owl poo!
making a whirl wind in a plastic bottle
We have some dissovable bath coloured tablets that help teach children about mixing colours which will create new colours
making crystals
I used to like recycling paper in the after school club.
Baking soda volcano.
Has to be the fizzing volcano
Change the colour of white carnations by adding food colouring to the water in their vase!
We created erupting volcanoes which was fun!
The volcano one
Blowing a ballon with bicarbonate of soda and vinegar
Volcanoes
My favourite science experiment was making a tornado in a bottle xx
Putting a coin in coke and watching it clean up
I love alkali metals in water
I can’t remember any…
crystal growing 🙂
We like Volcano experiment
My kids love when you drop a mint into fizzy pop and let it explode!!!!
we love the exploding volcano
Making a working volcano
Definitely volcano experiment 🙂

Loved making a volcano
I loved playing with iron filings and magnets!
I loved the exploding volcano, bi carb and vinegar. really smelly tho!!
Lava lamps!
bunsen burners
I used to love anything using the bunsen burner at school
The Egg and the bottle … love the kids faces when the egg pops into the bottle!
Volcanos made from bicarb and food colouring. Great giveaway. Thank you
