What have you been up to this week? Last Sunday we headed to New Lanark which is a stunning heritage site, consisting of old mill buildings and steeped in history. If you are ever in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit. On this occassion we didn’t do the mill tours or the interactive experience. This time we went to Brick City. This is an exhibition there over the summer and up until September which has lots of different landmarks made out of Lego. It was fantastic and really worth a visit. The boys loved it. Aria enjoyed trying to figure out what we inside the old chimney. Kids and their curiosity. We were there with friends of my husband’s so the kids had some friends too. Outside you can see the stunning scenery that surrounds New Lanark. The best part was seeing Lucas find a new love of Lego.
For years he’s asked for Lego, gotten fed up and frustrated by not being able to do it. A lot of things don’t come easy for Lucas. He has to work hard at sport, even though he’s a sporty kid, he puts in the effort and works at it, especially football. Being left handed he finds fiddly things like Lego a problem. And he’s very quick tempered, easily angered and struggles to deal with it. This is probably another blog post for another time. Right now, as of Friday, he’s built over 10 Lego sets and searching anywhere he can for more. He got stuck, but instead of throwing it on the ground, he started again and the pride in his face when he finished it was worth it. I had tears in my eyes. I was so proud. He’s 10 and beginning to love this things.
The rest of the week I’ve been working, the kids have been having fun outdoors when the weather hasn’t been torrential and I had a wee day off Tuesday where we sorted out the old school uniforms for the new ones. I think we are pretty much there now. Just check out Aria’s first pair of school shoes. How cute are these?
I was also of Friday and we had indoors where Lucas was building Lego, Tyler, Aria and I made slime and cloud dough. We baked some cookies and read some books from their summer reading challenge. They just need to hand them back into the library and we are done. 8 years in a row Lucas has completed his. It’s such a great way to get kids into reading over the summer. Aria has been doing great on her bike, never falling off of it once.
Then, Tyler comes home with his friend and they say they’ve lost Lucas. I say, what do you mean you’ve lost him? They were all playing out the front, he knows he can go down to the end of the street, but not out of it. It’s a long street. Huge patch of grass where they play football across the road. It’s plenty and they all have a great time. So, the boys have looked everywhere for him, saying he was behind them, but now not. I run up and down the street calling his name, nothing. Ten minutes go by and my heart is in my mouth. Trying to stay calm and not instantly calling 999. Where can he be? I lock the door, grabbing my car keys and shouting Aria in so we can drive around covering more ground. Just as I get in the car, out he pops. He’d been hiding in the bush, with his bike, across the road the whole time. He hadn’t heard me shout and thought he was just playing with Tyler and his friend. Oh my goodness, the relief flooded through me. I shouted him in and I shouted and I cried and I hugged him. He burst into tears, having no idea why I was so upset. Now, I know it was crazy, but those 15 minutes felt like a lifetime. Everything was ok and no harm was done. It just wasn’t like him. He always says if he’s going out the street to meet a friend, which is all fine. I needed a gin or whisky last night I tell you.
Football training today, while Lucas went to the key youth centre, which is great for giving slightly older kids a bit of independence in a safe environment. He really enjoys it. The younger two, hubby and I played some board games. They are now all away to Robert’s sisters for a sleep over. It’s been a count down since we woke up. Aria is so excited to stay at her twin cousin’s house. Robert and I are going to enjoy a child free evening with a little meal out and a couple of drinks. I am looking forward to a nice sleep without being shouted on numerous times for drinks, covers falling off, bad dreams, it’s too dark in here, you know the list. But, it’s oh so quiet without them.
Robert and I have this week off work as it’s the last full week before the summer holidays ends for us. I can’t believe they’ve had 6 weeks off already, it’s flown by. We have lots of fun days out planned.
What are you up to this weekend?

I spotted Aria’s new school shoes on Facebook today, so cute, best of all for me is that first photo where her whole body shows curiosity peering into the wooden frame. Love how your boys always have their camera smiles at the ready.
Good to see Lucas engaging with Lego. Our boys are just in a phase where they’re not playing with their Lego very much but hopefully it will come back around again.
Wow what a prank Tyler played hey?? New Lanark sounds great. Greetings from Oban, btw, where we’re presently on holiday.
New Lanark sounds like a wonderful place to visit. Beautiful photos.
Thank you for linking up
Oh my gosh what a petrifying 10 minutes that must have been. So glad all was well, and Lanark looks amazing! 🙂 #sundayphoto
Oh my goodness, 15 minutes is forever. I would have been petrified too and cried. Glad he was totally fine though and I’m guessing he won’t do that again, ever! Hope you have a lovely week off with them all x
Well done Lucas for building the Lego. That’s a great achievement! Eek! Those 15 minutes must have felt like a lifetime. I’m glad he turned up eventually! Enjoy your week off work. Those 6 weeks seem to have gone so quickly. We still have about 4 weeks left of the holidays. x
It’s horrible isn’t it, I “lost” my son once, before there were mobile phones. He’d gone to the ice rink with his friend (they were about 14 or so) and they were to be home by 4pm. When he didn’t arrive I felt sick and started ringing around. Eventually his friends parents found them on their way home, they had been at the ice rink watching a tournament and didn’t notice the time! That was definitely the longest hour of my life. #MySundayPhoto
Yey on the Lego win! I get frustrated with the sets sometimes if I’m honest. Beautiful pictures #silentsunday
Lovely photos. Your Lucas sounds a lot like my Big, who will be 10 in about 6 weeks (eek!). So glad you found him, little monkey! #HappyDaysLinky
Well done Lucas, on the Lego. It’s great when it clicks. Hope Aria’s first days at school go well
Oh my goodness! I was nearly in tears reading about Lucas going missing! That must have been so scary. Glad it was all OK. Great to read about how much Lego has built. x
Oh no kids really do like to send us to the edge. My son did something similar when we were in town shopping when he was about 3. He went missing in Next, we were calling him and staff were looking for him. We were frantic and after about 15 minute he pops out from in between some winter coats! Flipping kids! #HappyDaysLinky
Oh my goodness, I would have felt sick! Little monkeys! Some great pictures though #PointShoot
Enjoy your last week. My son struggles with Lego he says it hurts his fingers. Maybe I should try again. I can understand your pride! Thank you for linking up to #PointShoot 📸 i Love the first shot what an amazing place
don’t kids pick their moments, hope all is good now #happydayslinky
Kids they have there moments and like to test us. X #POINTSHOOT
well done to Lucas on finding the skill and patience to get enjoyment out of the lego.
Aaahh the dreaded disappearing child trick, my youngest son did that at 6 in a Falkirk shopping centre, which got sealed by security with no one out and no one in until we found him, it worked quickly and effectively, and like you I did not know whether to hug him of kill him.
I recognised New Lanark we have been a few times, a nice day out for everybody with plenty to see and do.
Scary stuff with Lucas. Losing a child even for a few minutes can send you into a terrible panic. Those New Lanark scenes are very familiar to me now. Glad you had a good time.
blimey that was scary for you with Lucas hiding all that time. it is awful when you have that sick to the pit of your stomach feeling when your think you have lost a child. Lovely that he has renewed his love of LEGO
Aria is so cheeky in that photo of her staring at the camera , bless her. x
Oh my goodness what a shock for you losing Lucas. I remember running round Next calling out for my son only to eventually find him hiding in a row of women’s dresses! We’ve seen the Brick City tour near us and the displays are fabulous.
Oh my goodness I would have been beside myself. Its a horrid feeling I lost Monkey at a park once an he couldn’t understand why I was upset either! #Ordinarymoments
Fun, fright and photo’s… Sounds like the perfect outing! #pointshoot great pics and great fun too! <3
Oh my goodness I know what you mean about the 15 minutes – I lost Gracie on the beach a couple of years ago and my world stopped!! Thank god he was in the bush!! Thank you for sharing in #HappyDaysLinky x
