This month our craft for Tots100 #BostikBloggers is all about Space. We had a lot of fun with this one as it’s a craft theme we have made a few time, especially with solar systems. Both my boys have been obsessed with space and stars for years. In fact my youngest boy Tyler got a telescope for his Christmas this year. Hopefully, you like what we’ve created. The crafts we came up with are for kids of different ages. I’d love to know what you think of our crafts and if you give them a go. Do send me your pictures of them on twitter, facebook email or leave a link in the comments below. The boys and I would love to see them.
Toddler and Preschooler Space Craft – Telescope
What you’ll need:-
- Bostik White Glu
- 1 Kitchen Roll Tube
- Paint
- Decorations like sticky stars (Optional)
- Paper for decorating (Optional)
Step 1
Paint the kitchen roll tube with whatever colour of paint you fancy or have to hand. We decided to use some glitter paint to make it more space like.
Step 2
Add some decorations. We used some shiny paper and some stick on stars. You can use whatever you’d like. We used the Bostik White Glu to stick on the stars and paper. Let your child’s imagination run wild. They could draw on stars, planets, even an alien.
Step 3
Now for the best bit, use your imagination to find those far away galaxies. What do you think? We had so much fun making this and seeing what we could see through it. We didn’t spot any spaceships, but we are sure we so a few extraterrestrial life forms. What will you see through yours?
Kids Space Craft – Calming Space Jar
What you’ll need:-
- Empty and clean glass jar
- 1/2 Bottle of Baby Oil
- Water
- Glitter
- Food colouring
- Decorations
- Glue (optional)
Step 1
Fill your empty jar with 1/2 a bottle of Baby Oil.
Step 2
Add in some food colouring. I used the gel food colouring, but any would do. You could also use paint. We added in some glitter paint as we had it to hand, but it’s not necessary. I used purple on this occassion. I thought it would look a bit more than like a galaxy far far away.
Step 3
Add in some items to make your calming space jar a little more interesting. I added in some sequins and some plastic stars. You could add in little figures or leave it without, it’s up to you.
Step 4
Add in some glitter. Any colours you’d like.
Step 5
Fill the jar up with water and give it a shake. You will see the oil and water don’t mix. The food colouring will mix into the water as will the water.
Step 6
A great little science experiment for the kids to learn too.
Step 7
Here is our little calming space jar with all it’s beautiful little stars glittering away.
Step 8
These jars are perfect for staring at for hours on end. Bringing magic to life. They calm kids who have got themselves in a tizzy and perfect for those with sensory needs. Just try it, you’ll be amazed and want one for yourself. We are making them for all the kids. My oldest finds it so therapeutic and relaxing when he has a melt down. What would you add to yours?
Simple Older Kids Space Crafts – Wax Space Picture
What You’ll Need:-
- Crayons
- Piece of Card
- Brush
- Black Paint
- Skewer or cocktail stick or something similar
Step 1
Get some colourful crayons and make a start on adding some colour to your card.
Step 2
I think this type of picture works well with blocks of colour.
Step 3
Fill up your full page with your colour and have some fun with it. Remember it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Step 4
Cover your coloured in cardboard with black paint. It needs to be quite thick black paint.
Step 5
Let your paint dry.
Step 6
Use a skewer or cocktail stick to allow you to scratch out your picture.
Step 7
We spoke about the different things we associated with space. We had a lot of fun.
Step 8
We added in some rockets, spaceships, stars, anything you fancy.
Step 9
Don’t forget to to sign your picture. Scratching out pictures with wax and paint is one of my all time favourite things to do as a child. It was one of those simple and fun things I did at school and the memories have stayed with me for years. Did you make these as a child? They are great to create as an adult too. What do you think?
So which one is your favourite? I know the calming space jars were a firm favourite here with the kids. They can be made into so many different themes. Addictive and relaxing. My favourite was the scratch art picture. We’d love to hear what you think of these and if you give them a go don’t forget to send me a picture. Leave me a link or tweet me over on twitter.
Pin for later.

OMG I love the scratch off craft!
Oh wow I love all these crafts Susan!! The sensory space jar is just amazing. Logan would love it 🙂 xx
Love these ideas! I think my boys would love the space jar especially. I remember doing the wax picture thing when I was a kid – so much fun!
Love these crafts! We have also been learning about space recently and I’ve been writing about all our space crafts too. #BrillBlogPosts

what brilliant ideas. Love the idea of the glass jars, never tried that before, will need to share this with DD1.
I LOVE these. Especially the space jar. I will definitely be trying these out with my daughter #Brilliantblogposts
Brilliant space crafts. I used to enjoy doing the scratch pictures when I was little, its lovely to be reminded of them! #CraftyCorner
They are all lovely Susan, I may just have to borrow these for a space themed activity hour here on the farm. I think the crayon and paint might be my favourite but I think the kids would have most fun with the glass galaxy jars. I’m sure I remember making periscopes like this as a child and adding little mirrors in to the top and bottom to look around corners and out of windows with out being seen.
Thank you for sharing such creative upcycled ideas on #Trash2Treasure
Loving these space themed activities. They are all so beautiful and colourful. #CraftyCorner

This is a great idea for Erin to do over the summer holidays.
I love all of these, but still think scratch art is magical even at over 40! Pinned.
So clever!
These are SO cool! I shall have to pin this for when Chloe does Space in Year 2 x
Great craft ideas. I love that jar, although I think I would be in constant fear of it opening up all over carpet, especially with my two!
Meant to add #TheListLinky
Great space telescope but I especially love the wax scratch picture. I did these as a child too and was recently trying to recall how to make them as not much covers wax! Thanks for the reminder and clear, simple instructions #Trash2Treasure
You always come up with the most amazing ideas! That wax picture is brilliant, my daughters would love this. And you can’t beat a telescope, hours of fun. Thank you for joining us at #CraftyCorner
My two boys love all things space related and they would love this! Looks brilliant 🙂 Thanks for linking up to #craftycorner x
