I have always been a cat person. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs, but there is just something about cats that I love. I’ve had cats all my life. You can read about my life with cats, my mum, aka the crazy cat lady, and her love of cats. They are soft, sweet, loving, and have their own little quirky personalities. After our family cat Yoshi passed away a few years ago, at such a young age, we were reluctant to get another. However, I missed having a cat to pet and listen to that relaxing hum of the purr. Cats are such a relaxing animal to be around and sit on your knee and purr away contentedly. This helps melt the cares of a stressful day away. Well… it works for me.
Last summer we decided to take the leap, after many discussions, and get a kitten. We welcomed our little bundle of fur, Twilight, into our lives. She is just adorable. Look at how teeny tiny she was as a kitten. From the minute Twilight arrived she fitted right in. My little girl Aria and Twilight share a special bond and I am sure Twilight thinks Aria is another kitten when she plays with her. She lets Aria carry her about, push her in her doll’s pram, and sleeps in her dolls bunk bed. It is very sweet.
Having a pet is a big responsibility and not one that should be taken lightly. The boys have the responsibility of making sure that she has fresh water, kitten food, and biscuits each morning. Whiskas is our preference and a brand that I know and trust. I feed her when I get home from work and she has used her litter tray from day one, which is great.
Twilight is still young, at just over a year old, there are always things that you can teach your kitten and even cat for that matter. We are teaching her not to jump on certain surfaces, like the kitchen work tops and not to scratch furniture. She is pretty good at most things, but it’s always good to help them further. Having fun time with stimulation for kittens is great. Make sure you have lots of different toys and a good scratching post or mat is essential. We have two, one which is a bit like corrugated cardboard and the other a post, near to where she likes to scratch.
From a very young age a kitten’s personality comes through. Twilight likes to snuggle. A lot of cats like to sleep on their own, not Twilight. She’s always had to sleep next to someone or on someone. Which is great and very cute as a kitten, but thankfully she’s a small cat and not too heavy when sprawled across your lap. Don’t get me wrong, she still sleeps in her little igloo shaped bed too.
Twilight is an indoors cat and it gives us more of a chance to see her personality shine through, so when Whiskas asked me what my kitten’s career would be if she went to Kitten Kollege, I got my thinking cap on. With all the football that goes on in this house, I was thinking footballer would be her first choice. As I say to the boys, you should always have a backup plan in case being a footballer doesn’t work out. Twilight loves nothing more than being in a box. She will fit into the smallest of spaces and on top of anything. This is why I think a career in construction would be her top choice, after being a famous football kitten of course.
Being very active, Twilight loves to run about the house, up and down the stairs and jumps sideways bizarrely. She is small and light, but not the most graceful of cats I’ve ever had or seen. You can hear her bounding about upstairs like an elephant, honestly. And she sometimes slides off the windowsill. Thankfully, always landing on her feet. She’s a funny wee thing.
You need to watch these adorable videos from Whiskas!
Sending her to Kitten Kollege would be great. I think she could learn to build her own little cardboard box house. Or what if they could teach her how to communicate better with us, how much fun would that be? I just love the idea of Kitten Kollege. What would you want your kitten to learn?
We love being cat owners. As a family we have embraced the responsibility of caring, cleaning, feeding, playing, and looking after our pet. She gets regular vet check-ups as well as routine injections. It’s important to get their health checked just as much as it is yours. But most of all, we love playing with her and enjoying see her personality grow. What is your favourite thing about your cat?
Disclosure:- This post is a collaboration with WHISKAS®, but all thoughts are my own. Check out their website for more information on their cat food and their YouTube channel for fantastic Kitten Kollege videos.
I love Twilight, she is adorable x My cats love boxes too but this has got me thinking. Salem is an outdoor cat so I’d send him to Kollege to learn how to not destroy my flowers (And probably the neighbours!) Sabrina is an indoor cat and she really needs to learn that the litter tray is not behind the tv. She often forgets!!
Twilight is SOOOOOOO like Gary – except that she uses the litter tray! We haven’t been able to get him to use it more than 3 times since his operation. Boo! I can’t believe she’s one already though – where did that go? 😀
I’d be hard pushed to say if I prefer cats or dogs but Twilight is absolutely adorable. Thank you so much for adding her to the 100th #AnimalTales
