We are big fans of going out to dinner as a family. We don’t get to do it often, but when we do, we have the best time and the kids just love being out and well, just being together as a family. The end of May bank holiday, we headed out to Cumbernauld to Broadwood Farm Restaurant. It was a lovely day and a nice drive out. We’ve never been before, so it’s alway interesting to see what a new place is like.
The place was busy when we first entered with it being Sunday evening at 5pm. We got a table no problem and a member of staff brought over menus for the kids, along with some colouring in items. It was a busy and bustling wee place, but it was friendly and looked good. We chatted together about what we’d like to eat and drink. Lucas always knows what he wants, he has a bigger appetite than me, as he’s so active. A kids meal doesn’t quite cut it for him anymore so he was chuffed to get a started and a kids meal.
Broadwood Farm has a wide range of food from carvery meats, to steak and ale pie, battered fish, burgers and fresh made pizza. There is a wide selection of vegetarian options available also. All main courses come with unlimited veggies, salad and sides. which I think is excellent. My husband has a gluten free diet and they accommodated that, letting him know which items on the menu he could and couldn’t have. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a place that has served food quite like it. It is great for us as we have quite varied tastes. I am not a carvery fan, but my husband is, which means he can get the meat he loves and I can get something I fancy.
The ordering system is done with your table number and going up to the bar. It can get a bit busy, but they are efficient at placing the order and getting your drinks. If you haven’t been it’s worthwhile speaking to a member of staff to explain how their system works before you use. If you order starters, burgers, kid’s meals or pizza’s then you are given a buzzer which buzzes when your meal is ready. The pizza’s are made onsite in their large pizza ovens, you can even watch your pizza being made which is fascinating. Add on your sides and away you go. The carvery food is out on display under the heated lamps. The chef serves up the meat and you can add on the rest of the side, potatoes, etc. All the food looked great and was well presented.
I wasn’t driving, so I ordered myself this delicious goats cheese, red onion and spinach pizza along with a wee glass of white wine. It was lovely. Freshly made and cooked to perfection. Lucas got some BBQ ribs, his favourite as a starter along with his kids pizza.
Both Lucas and my pizza were great. The kids size was a fair size too and he could get unlimited sides. He got stuck in and cleared his plate. The member of staff attending our table chatted away with him about football and joked with him about teams. He was lovely and made the kids laugh and feel at ease.
Robert went for the carvery and look at all of this? All gluten free too. He was delighted and ate every bit of his. Tyler went for the burger and Aria went for fish fingers. They always eat their veg, but when out for dinner and having a treat, I don’t push it as much as I should. I thought the fish finger portion was about right for a kids meal and the chips looking amazing. I may have nicked one or two off the plate. Both of them really enjoyed their meals and have since asked to go back.
There is a vast range of drinks available to suit every taste also, from fizzy drinks to various alcoholic ones to fun ones for the kids like slushies. The slushies come in 2 flavours and can be made into an alcoholic version for those adults looking to cool down on a hot day. There is a lovely cocktail menu as well. It really caters for all tastes. As you can see above Aria is enjoying her slushie.
We were too stuffed for a big dessert, but the kids and I fitted in the ice-cream. It was one of those swirly, soft and tasty ice-cream from the machine you can serve yourself and it’s unlimited too. I don’t know about you, but I love using these machines. I might be fulfilling my childhood dream of owning my own ice-cream van. The sauces are unlimited too. The only thing is you need to pay for any of the sweets if you want. These use 50p to add toppings. There is a wide range of sauces so we just went for that. It was just enough to give us a sweet treat, without over filling.
We found Broadwood Farm Restaurant a lovely place to take the family. It was friendly, had a great atmosphere and good food. The kids really enjoyed it and everyone ate every bit of their food. The wide range of food was interesting and the way it was served was that wee bit different. The prices were great too, we fed the whole family of 5 with drinks and 4 ice-creams for under £60. I think that was great value when eating out. We really enjoyed our trip here and will be back.
