I really cannot believe I am sitting here writing about my baby boy’s 9th year as he turns 10 today. How on earth has it been 10 years since I brought you into the world in a dramatic entrance, well you never do things the sensible way, do you? You can read about the birth story of my first baby Lucas. Lucas really did teach me what it was to be a mother, not just the walking zombie like first few years, when he wouldn’t sleep, but what it really was to have your heart no longer belong to yourself, for it to belong to a wonderful little baby. I have learned everyday since he was born and it has been nothing short of amazing.
This year I’d say I’ve seen the biggest changes happen in you, since the baby years. You look different, you’ve grown up so much in looks and in what you do. I can see the hormones start to wriggle their way in and I can see the next few years in front of us will have a few testing times, but we will learn together and we will get through them togther, because that’s what we do. You bottle things up, go in a strop, we know something is wrong and you just say “I don’t know” or “I’m fine.” Then, late at night you spill what’s really wrong, I listen and we try to fix it or come up with a compromise or an explanation if we can’t.
School life is, as always going well. You enjoy school, most of the time. Maths is still your favourite subject. But, you love to read and you love us to read together. I love this more than you will ever know and I will continue to do so until you no longer want me to, and even then I might just read anyway! Your trumpet playing is coming on and we were both taken aback when you played us the titanic song. I hope you keep it up. Extra curricular activities you love, school football, netball, being one of only 3 boys on the team, this makes me proud, everything you are there, you give it a go and you commit. Musical theatre, your teachers and us, your parents are especially proud. You are the digital team and do all the sound work. You love it and you are fantastic at it. So much so, you were awarded an excellence in extra curricular activities achievement award. You were so proud and love that medal. Keep going, keep trying and enjoy school. You have a lot of friends, including your twin cousins who all adore you.
Football is still your main focus. From morning until night you will kick a ball, if you are allowed to get away with it. I’ve had to ban it in the living room, although that doesn’t always stop you. From balloons to teddies to balls, you will use it as a football. It is delightful watching you play, you have the biggest smile on your face from start to finish. You don’t care if you win or lose, you just want to play. Please, never lose this. Daddy is still your coach and you wouldn’t have it any other way for now. You do like your other coaches, but daddy is your favourite. You are certainly a Daddy’s boy and love to do whatever he is doing and spend time with him. Yes, I am always there for the hugs, when you are ill, stroking your head, listening to your troubles and kissing you good night.
Going to see Dan TDM at the theatre was one of your highlights this year. We weren’t sure what to expect, but he was fab and you loved every minute of it. Only downside, he didn’t bring his pugs, but you bought your own. And no, we are still not getting you a real pug. However, you have loved the addition of Twilight. You are really good at feeding here and your allergies, haven’t really suffered at all, which is great news.
You tube is your latest obsession, like most kids. F2 freestylers, to Chris MD and of course Dan TDM. You have started your own channel and are finding it a little harder than you thought at finding your own voice. There is plenty of time, maybe you can teach me. I have loved helping you and this skittles experiment was a lot of fun. I am sure there are more videos to follow next year.
We had a lot of fun making your Halloween costumes this year and you love wearing them. I am still helping at the school at Halloween and Easter, and you still enjoy having me there, which is great. We are a family that loves a bit of crafting aren’t we? Well, maybe not daddy, but he can be persuaded the odd time.
You love being outdoors, but aren’t really a natural outdoorsy person. Playing football, like I said, you’d do until the sun goes down. Climbing trees you are starting to like, although you don’t feel you are good at it. Practice makes perfect. Swing parks aren’t your thing and since Pokemon Go has come out, you’d much rather walk for miles with us to find that elusive pokemon. You are a sporty and fit boy who loves to have fun, but not a thrill seeker, you’d much rather spend time on the carousel with your sister than the big dipper.
You and Tyler are still best friends. You do everything together. However, this year has seen a lot of bickering. No fallouts, but definitely a lot more tension between you two. I think that is mainly down to Tyler, he loves to wind people up and push them to their limits at present. But, seeing both of you play, spend time and listening to you both chat in your bunk beds, you love your new ones, thanks gran, at night, well it makes my heart swell. Appreciate each other, I never had any brothers or sisters, you don’t know how lucky you are.
This year saw you complete your swimming lessons, you never thought you would, but you did. Way to go. We do need to go more often though to keep it up, don’t we?
This was a fun picture that was taken yesterday. You and your brother love soft toys and we had so much fun making these from Be My Bear. You love being with your family and doing things together, even if it is just sitting down to dinner together. You are the best big brother and look after and nurture your little sister, even if she isn’t always appreciative of that love. She adores you both. You love having your extended family close by and are very close to your twin cousins. Family birthdays are a favourite of yours is as the treat of a takeaway and fizzy juice.
You are growing into a handsome young man and your dad and I are proud of you every day. I am looking forward to see what your 10th year brings, but as ever, I wish I had a little pause button. Just for a while. Lucas you can be anything you want to be in the world, if you want to be the professional footballer you want to be, then by all means go for it. We will support you ever step of the way, but a back up plan is always good too. We love you and will always be here for you no matter what. Remember that!
Why not have a read about Lucas over the years, 9th birthday, 8th Birthday, 7th Birthday, 6th Birthday & 5th Birthday. I unfortunately started the month after your 4th birthday and missed this one, I can’t believe I will have been blogging 7 years next month. One of the things I love most about my blog is reading back and seeing all the pictures of how my children have grown over the years. I hope they will love reading these as much as I do. One day I would love to make these into a book for them.
Happy birthday Lucas, I am proud of you and love nothing more than being your mummy. You’ll always be my baby boy, no matter how big you get. You have made me the mother I am today. I love you.
Ahh! How lovely! What a cutie your boy is.
