Skylanders Imaginators Crash Limited Edition Starter Pack (PS4) – Review

4th November 2016 By Susan Mann 1 Comment

Skylanders Imaginators Crash Limited Edition

Last month saw the release of a brand new game from Skylanders, Skylanders Imaginators, just in time for adding it to those ever growing Christmas lists. And we were super lucky to be sent the Playstation 4 Crash Limited Edition Starter Pack to review. My boys are Skylanders fans, especially my oldest. He needs something that can hold his attention and keeps the action coming, this certainly fits the bill.

Skylanders Imaginators Characters

Both my boys aged 7 and 9 have played Skylanders before, so know the basics, but each game is different. They are simple to setup and easy to navigate and isn’t too difficult to play, but there are varying levels of difficulty to suit all. There is a lot of game playing on different levels and lots to unlock and collect.

Skylanders Game

The Crash Limited Edition Starter Pack contains the following:-

  • Video Game Disc
  • Skylanders Portal Of Power
  • 4 Sensei Figures – Crash Bandicoot, Dr Neo Cortex, Master King Pen and Golden Queen
  • 1 Imaginite Creation Crystal
  • 1 Collection Poster
  • A Sticker Sheet
  • Plus a level unlock (the Crash Bandicoot Skylanders figure opens the Thumpin’ Wumpa Islands level)

As you can see there are lot of Skylander characters and crystals to collect. You don’t need to have them all to enjoy the game play. These are items that can be used as stocking fillers, saved pocket money, gifts or rewards. They add to the game play, rather than being essential. Everything you need to play and enjoy the game are in the starter pack. There are loads of different items to collect as you play, upgrade your armour, or to give you special powers, boosts and cool weapons.

Playing Skylanders

The Skylanders Imaginators game has the enemy Kaos, who has to be defeated. Having stumbled upon some ancient magic that allows him to create an all-powerful army of “Doomlanders”. The Doomlanders need to be beaten to save Skyland and all that live there. Defeating Kaos isn’t easy, but you can follow, collect and get there. I love that the control system itself is very intuitive and swapping characters on the Portal works well. Kids love to change them often, especially when you have a few or more characters, so I was pleased it picked them up straight away.

I love the Crash Bandicoot is in the Skylanders Imaginators. He is one I remember from my younger days, so it’s nice to be able to chat to the boys about a character I at least know, plus he looks great. The Imaginators game is a lot of fun, it’s funny and has lots of different quests which can be a little crazy and challenging, but always fun. You will try your hand at racing, different missions and quests, meeting strange and funny characters and enjoy every minute of it. It really is a game that has it all covered.

Engrossed in the game

Skylanders Imaginators is a really great game for kids. My boys can play it together or they can play it on their own. The characters add that extra dimension and I like that you don’t “need” to buy any additional ones, but the option is there. They unlock other sections, weapons, powers, etc, so will add to the fun. The game is safe for children to play, there is no characters getting killed and it gets children the think about what they need to do to defeat the bad guys. Thankfully, there is no going back to the start if you get it wrong. There is nothing worse than that when younger children are playing.

We are really enjoying Skylanders Imaginators it is colourful, creative and great for kids. You get everything you need in the starter pack, but can expand. It is a a disc and toy-based game which is available for all major consoles. Prices do vary with an RRP of £49.99 to £59.99 for the Skylanders Imaginators Crash Limited Edition set, so shop around. Imaginators allows players to create their own unique characters which is a great plus, as well as them playing with the characters which have accompanying figures. We love that you can play alone or 2-player. You can also play against other people online, but this is best for older children. It really is a great game for all the family and a lot of fun.

Disclaimer:- we were sent the pack for the purpose of this review, but all words and opinions are my own.

I love the look on his face – that’s exactly the face my boys pull when they’re immersed in Skyland!! 😀
