Winning Moves Board Games – Review

2nd July 2016 By Susan Mann 3 Comments

Winning Moves

We love board games in our house and play together at least a few times a week. Board games are a great way to bond and have some fun. Not to mention getting away from screen time and something to keep the kids occupied on rainy days. It teaches fairness, taking turns and maths, etc. Learning can be fun and if you win, that feels pretty good too. Winning Moves is a fantastic company which provides an endless amount of board games like Monopoly, Cluedo, Risk, Connect 4, Pass The Pigs and many many more. And not forgetting the fab top trump card games.

Winning Moves Games

We were sent a wide range of games to suit all ages. Aria was a big fan of the Disney Princess Guess Who. She knows most of them which helps and although she didn’t quite grasp the concept of Guess Who, she was getting there and we had a lot of fun playing, which let’s face it is the main priority. It’s not all about the winning, but the fun of taking part. Ok, winning is good too, but not quite the same winning against someone who doesn’t quite grasp the game. A few more times and I think she’ll get it. She asks to play it all the time which is cute.

Guess Who

Monopoly is a classic game and one for both children and adults to have some fun together. We have many variations of monopoly. There are different stages to suit the age of a child. For this one the boys reviewed a football team monopoly, which was Arsenal. They are football mad, so this was right up their street and I often come home from work to see them having a great game together. That is one of the good things about these types of board games, you don’t need a lot to play.

Monopoly

Obviously things can get a bit heated. My husband and sister in law have been banned from playing Monopoly together at my in laws house, do to their disagreements. It’s very funny. One of our favourites is the Top Trumps card games. They are great for little fun games before bed, taking to grandparents or even bring a game to school day. They fit in a bag and everything is contained in the little tub.

Top Trumps

See there really is something to suit every taste in gaming. The boys are really into Harry Potter, so these are right up their street. One thing we love about Top Trumps is that any age can play. Aria who is only three can join in, she can’t read yet, but with help and guidance she felt like she was playing.

Playing Top Trumps

There is every subject imaginable in the Top Trumps range and it helps the kids learn about maths, reading and strategies. Plus they are great for holidays, trips, long car journeys or just a quick and simple game for all the family. One of my favourite games as a child was Pass the Pigs. It is a great and fun game, where you roll two toys pigs, a bit like dice and depending on the way they land, it determines the points you score. Watch out for “makin bacon”. This game has so many great memories for me, playing with my dad in our caravan. Winning Moves sells various different variations of this game. There are large pigs, to the traditional one and we had the party one. This was a great variant to the original and we’ve had so much fun. It comes with us everywhere. I cannot recommend this game enough. It’s simple, fun and will have you all laughing. The perfect family game.

Pass the Pigs Party Edition

For Aria there was a very cute Peppa Pig top trump which was a bit simpler and came in a great wee tin. She carries with her everywhere. Lots of activity cards, dot to dot, colouring, etc. Great fun on a rainy day.

With the summer holidays underway here and coming up else where, I’d highly recommend some family games from Winning Moves. They are a great company, with a huge selection that will suit every age and taste. The top trumps would be great for travelling or for rainy days and the board games and perfect for some family bonding. Then my favourite Pass the Pigs, well, everyone needs this game in their lives. Have fun and let me know what ones you’d pick?

Do check out Winning Moves website or on twitter or facebook.

We absolutely love board games and play them often – we’ve never tried Pass the Pigs though and it sounds great fun!
