Qixels Turbo Dryer – Review

11th April 2016 By Susan Mann 3 Comments

Qixels Turbo Dryer

We are big crafters in our house and the boys love nothing more than making things. From the simplest to the most complicated. When we were asked to review the Qixels Turbo Dryer I knew that my little boy Tyler would love it. Qixels, allows you to make pixelated image in a style similar to Minecraft. This is an instant attraction as both boys are Minecraft fans.

Qixels Turbo Dryer Set

What do you get in the Qixels Turbo Dryer kit:-

  • 500 Qixels cubes
  • 1 Turbo Dryer
  • 2 Cube trays
  • 4 Design templates
  • 2 Display bases
  • 2 Stands
  • 2 Plug in accessories
  • 1 Bag tag and thread
  • 1 Storage tray
  • 1 Water sprayer
  • Instructions

Everything you need to get started.

Building Qixels

Qixels come with 4 different design cards in the kit or you can make your own. The 4 designs you have are ascorpion, a dinosaur, a fighter jet and a Viking. We decided to follow some of the designs and first of all make a fighter jet. The qixels themselves are the little cube blocks that make up the pictures. 5 sides of the coloured blocks are smooth and 1 side is hollow and has 4 little feet for you to push into the design. It can be a little tricky to get the template to stay in place and to put the Qixels in. If your fingers are sticky or wet, they will just pull them off. The key is to take your time, have patience and enjoy. Tyler was great at it, my oldest Lucas found it difficult and lost patience with it. So it’s not for everyone. But it is fun and the effort pays off as the designs look fab.

Building Qixels together

Once you have completed your design, you place the template on the plastic hexagonal, inside the turbo dryer. Spray water onto the design using the bottle for around 20-25 sprays, ensuring every area is wet.

Spraying Qixels

You will see a small pool of water collected on each qixels. The water is what fuses them together to bring your design to life.

Qixel Turbo Dryer

Time for the fun bit,  press the large button to spin the dryer for 30 seconds to get rid of any excess water. Any excess water will be collected in water tank located underneath the Qixel turbo dryer. I’d recommend waiting another 20 minutes or so for the design to dry. Once dryer, gently remove your design from the template and it’s ready.

Qixels Rocket Ship

You can then add the little add-ons that come with the kit, like a booster pack on the rocket ship. There are two stands for your characters and also a bag tag which is great.

Completed Qixels

You are only left which a few spare Qixels once you’ve completed your design, but you can buy more. We are planning on buying more and making some new characters. Tyler is hoping to build some Minecraft figures.

Qixels Tubro Dryer Complete

The Qixels Turbo dryer kit is aimed at kids aged 4 and above. The designs are simple, but the Qixles can be a little tricky. You may need to help younger kids. We really enjoyed this set and at less than £20 it is excellent value for money. The additional sets are £9.99 which I think is good value too as it comes with everything  you need. We will definitely be buying more and I will be recommending this to our friends and would make a great gift. It’s available from Amazon and other toy stores.

Disclaimer:- I was sent this set to review, but all views and opinions are my own.
