Hot Wheels Track Builder Starter Kit – Review

5th April 2016 By Susan Mann 8 Comments

Hot Wheels Box

My boys have been huge fans of Hot Wheels for years. Ever since they were wee, they were either playing with a car or kicking a football. I never just stuck with these, they could play with whatever the wanted, toys are toys as far as I’m concerned,  but cars was something they went back to time and time again. Hot Wheels are by far what they want to play with. They didn’t play as much for a while, but then there seemed to be a frenzy at school and everyone in both the boys classes are swapping, collecting and playing with Hot Wheels at playtime.

Tracks were high on their Christmas list and a great one to start is this one, the Hot Wheels Track Builder starter kit. It allows you to build, store, carry and build a whole world of Hot Wheels tracks. It’s excellent.

The instruction booklet provided allows for four different ideas on how to build your track. Which is great if your inquisitive little ones like to make their cars do different jumps, loops, etc like mine do. We went for the first one, we have since went on to make number 3 and have had loads of fun with both. It is simple to take apart and rebuild, so don’t worry that you are stuck with it once it’s built.

Hot Wheels Instructions

Tyler, who is 7 and a huge fan of Hot Wheels, was the one to build the tracks. He couldn’t quite manage it on his own as it can be a little tricky to get the tracks to slide into place with the connector. Putting it all together following the instructions he was able to do no problem, just the clicking part, needed a little extra pressure from an adult or perhaps and older sibling. Getting the tracks apart was the same, you need a slight twisting action to take the tracks apart, it’s not hard, but needs a little bit of strength.

Inside the box you get quite a few pieces of orange track, two 90-degree track turns, connectors, ramps, a split loop, a holder, a hot wheels car and more. Everything you need for some car jumping and racing fun is right here in the box.

Hot Wheels Tracks

One of the great things about Hot Wheels tracks is that you can build on it, you can add more and more tracks from different sets which are all compatible and have a huge Hot Wheels world. We have a lot of kids and built it up and the attic playroom. The boys have been loving it. It works really well with all sorts of Hot Wheels cars. If you don’t have the room for floor tracks, do look at the wall mounted ones, they too are great.

Loop the Loop

As you can see in the above picture, capturing the movement of the green car was impossible, you can see if blur past. The speed of the cars set off from the launcher is incredible and mesmerising. The possibilities of track design really are endless and children can spend ours building, taking down, moving and redesigning their car tracks until their hearts content. It will keep them and their friends occupied for hours. Racing cars, seeing how high they can make them jump, watching them spin through the loop or crash into each other, endless fun.

Hot Wheels Car

The car that comes with this set is a green translucent style car. To start you set it into the launcher by clicking it back, press the button and off it shoots. The part that acts as the first loop the cars can jump through is doubled up as a carrier for the tracks. Hook them on for easy storage or for taking them to the Grandparents house for fun on the go. A great idea!

Hot Wheels Starter Track

As you can tell we are big fans of Hot Wheels and have been for years. We know the product, they are well made and have been played with many times. This is the type of toy that keeps on growing. You can buy additional tracks, change it about, there is no boredom with a Hot Wheels track. The sets are all reasonably priced so it makes a perfect gift too. And the cars make great rewards or pocket money items. Or like my boys they swamp them with their friends in the playground. It is suitable for children aged 5-8. We very impressed with this set, it makes an excellent starting point and the speed and movement of the cars is incredible, you have to see it. At £19.99 I think it’s a great price for what you get, it has endless possibilities, it can be easily put away, is portable and most of all a lot of fun.

We have had so many of these over the years. My current 18 year old had tons of Hot Wheels when he was younger. They’re ace, you really can’t go wrong and this set looks a nice one for a starter set. Wait until you have it all the way down the stairs!!

This does look really good. We bought our son the Spiderman Hot Wheels track for Easter and he loves it, so I can see him enjoying this one too.

Think we need a Hot Wheels room here we have so much. I can’t believe kids are swapping cars at school – and how cool if they swapped half a car with the new side splitters.

Someone gave us an even more basic version than this with just the car pinging part and 4 pieces of track and my boys get so much fun out of it. The just turned 2 year old has only just learned how to pull back the blue bit and put the car in front but he’s so happy he can do it himself now (as am I!)
