What’s in a Name? Choosing a name for your baby is really difficult. If you are like me, you’ll have bought 5 different baby name books and went through them everyday in pregnancy, even though they pretty much have the same names in them, right? Then when you find one you like, your partner won’t like it and vice versa.
Finding one you both agree on, hurrah, only to find out you don’t like what it means. Or it doesn’t go with your surname! Then you have to consider the nick names they might get at school. Children can be cruel you know. You want to give them as little chance as possible to grow up defined by a nick name given in Primary school.
Being called Susan, it was deemed inevitable I was called Suzie Wong. Why I had no idea. Turns out she was in a novel The World of Suzie Wong which was made into a film. Turns out she was a lady with a reputation. Not sure what my peers were allowed to watch, but this varied as I got older.
Changing your name couldn’t be simpler, it only takes three minutes and at £9.99 it’s certainly not expensive. The website is secure and safe to use. Lots have done it and been really happy with the outcome. The documents are legally binding, so no worries there. They are accepted by every government organisation and it can all be done online from home.
Enter your current details and fill out the new ones. Make sure you check your new details are correct, you don’t want to have to do it again after having given yourself a name with incorrect spelling. That would be a tad embarrassing wouldn’t it?
Once your documents arrive, you’ll need a witness to sign them and you are good to go with your new name. It is a lot easier than I thought. For as much as I’d hate my children to change their names as a lot of thought was put into them, it’s good to know if they really do hate them as they grow or if I just fancy a change, then the system in place is simple and easy to use.
Have you ever considered changing your name or know anyone that has?
Disclaimer:- This is a featured post, but one I was intrigued about, so hope you are too.
Eek! Caramel Bar! My eldest son would have had my daughter’s name if he’d been a girl, then my husband went off the name second time around. So glad he’d decided he liked it again by the time we had her!
Initials are another funny one, in case they make a word that doesn’t look right.
One of my family changed their name – it actually was THE easiest thing in the world 😀
My friend Dave worked out that it was cheaper to change his name than to get a customised number plate for his car, so he changed his name to his number plate, getting 15 minutes of fame in the process, including appearing on the Kilroy show! Later on he hand a run in with his bank and changed his name to ‘ Yorkshire Bank are a bunch of fascist bastards’ so that they would have to write that on his cheques… They couldn’t fit it so dropped his middle names, using Mr Yorkshire Bastards. I don’t know if he’s ever officially changed it back to Dave, but he’s always been Dave to his friends.
Ahhh I quite like caramel bar! There was a guy at my work called Richard long but he preferred to be called Dick. And our email systems all show surname then first name. I used to laugh like a 3 year old every single time 🙂
