Potty Training Help With Thomas & Friends – Review and Giveaway

2nd October 2015 By Susan Mann 81 Comments

Anyone who follows me on twitter will know the troubles I’ve been having with Aria and potty training. She’s a clever cookie, but she is adamant she is not using the potty or the toilet. When I was asked to try out the new Thomas & Friends potty training books I thought this might be what turns the corner.

We bought a potty, pants, etc. She wears the pants, but has a nappy on underneath. I think the nappy is a comfort thing too. She just refuses to try or sit on the potty or toilet. Now she is only 2 years and 8 months, so I have time, but she has to be using the toilet before she starts nursery. Time is counting, but I still have plenty of time I think.

The boys seemed to be a little easier in that I waited until they told me they’d done a piddle or poo and we started. A few days and chocolate buttons as a reward, we had a potty trained boy. Ok, it was that simple to potty train as I blogged and followed up here. But they weren’t as stubborn and determined as this little miss. As you can see she’s little miss independent.

Toddler

We have been reading the brand new range of Thomas & Friends Potty Training Books by Egmont UK which feature two separate titles – Thomas Potty Book and Thomas & Friends Well Done Thomas Activity Book.  We have been reading them every night before bedtime and she seems to be warming to the idea.

The first book explains all the different stages of potty training. Whether you are planning on using a potty or toilet seat it covers both including using steps. I think the book is excellent and the fact it doesn’t just explain to use the potty is a big step in helping your child to want to use one or both. Most books, apps and videos I’ve looked at just use a potty, this is why I think these books are a welcomed addition in the potty training journey. We also loved the reward chart section within the book and Aria is excited to know she’ll get a sticker each time she sits on the toilet. I think children respond well to reward charts and stickers are like gold to a young child.

Thomas & Friends Potty Training

The Thomas & Friends Well Done Thomas Activity Book is about behaviour and rewarding good behaviour. You don’t have to use it for potty training, but if you have them together it might be a good idea to use it for that. However, it can be used separately and used for many different items, like your toddler putting their toys away, or staying in bed or eating their veggies. We are using it for holding hands on the school run and not getting out of bed when it’s dark. So far so good. Whatever items you feel are relevant. The book is packed with stickers, charts and certificates. The book is well designed and helps your child feel secure, safe and a great big enthusiastic well done. Toddlers love it.

We really enjoyed both these books. Aria loves reading the potty training and pointing out the different items she needs. She even says she has these. I am going to give it another few weeks and ask her if she’d like to try again. I will come back and update. All in all I think these are great for toddlers, incentive and understanding with characters children know and love.

Giveaway

The lovely people at Egmont UK have given me a chance for one of my readers to win both the Thomas Potty Book and Thomas & Friends Well Done Thomas, Activity Book. Enter the rafflecopter form before and good luck.
