Problem Skin In Your 30s – What Can Be Done?

3rd September 2015 By Susan Mann 5 Comments

I wasn’t blessed with great skin, you know the glowing, consistently perfect type, but I did inherit good skin. My grandmother on my mother’s side had great skin, she had very few wrinkles even into her 70’s and it was soft, it looked soft. She followed a routine every evening of cleansing her skin, then toner and finished off with some good old fashioned cream. You know the one in the blue tub, can’t remember the name. No matter what she did this. I remember staying with her many times and I can still smell the freshly cleaned skin and light scent.  Memories are a funny thing aren’t they?

My mother followed suit, she too has very few wrinkles and looks great for her age. Shhh don’t tell her I said that, she’d never believe you anyway! She too followed the routine of cleanse, tone and moisturise. However, she didn’t quite follow suit on the traditional products. Opting for some expensive anti aging creams latterly, She’s not convinced.

Wanting to be like my mother and grandmother, I remember asking from a very young age for my own products. I was given water as a toner and delicately put it on with cotton balls, feeling grown up, I followed this with some light moisturiser. This set me in good steed for looking after my skin later in life.

In my ahem lateish 30’s I have relatively good skin. I look after it well and have learnt over the years how to look after it and what to do if I encounter a problem. As a teenager I didn’t have spots until I was mid teens, it was awful, it carried on until my 20’s. I tried everything. I then found a great skincare treatment, I noticed a massive difference within a week. I really did. Proactiv+ follows the same routine as I was used to with it’s cleanse, tone and moisturise or repair in this case. It works by uncloging pores, removing dirt and other impurities that block your skin and cause the spots. It calms and it just works.

I started using it again in my mid 30’s when hormones of pregnancy, etc started breaking my skin out. I did a review of Proactiv+ back in 2012. This is my go to product when my skin needs some spot control.

As I’ve gotten older my kidney cause my a lot of problems with the kidney disease I have and this plays havoc with my skin. A few years ago I had huge big boils, caused by the toxins not being processed. Through help, I got this under control and I got my skin back to the way I want it. Yes I have the odd breakouts, but it’s nothing to what I used to get. I’ve not yet invested in the anti-aging products, but it’s something I need to look in to. Any advice is gratefully received. However, after reading my wonderful blogging friend Mostly Yummy Mummy’s post, I think I’ll stick with her advice on the anti-wrinkle products. She is the same age, she’s beautiful and stylish and we encouraged each other to start out blogs together many moons ago.

I learnt that, yes, drinking lots of water does make your skin clearer, as does eating lots of fruit and veg. Let’s not forget, a good night’s sleep, but with kids, I don’t know what that it is anymore. Plus a good make up that won’t clog your pores. I use a mineral makeup and have done for years. I wouldn’t use anything else.

I have spoken to a few people recently who’ve had skin problems, this is why I thought I’d share mine. These are my top tops for keeping your skin clear and looking beautiful. I’d love to know what your tips are?

Thank you for sharing this. I had no idea you were in your late 30s! Your skin looks so young. There’s some good tips there and I will look into Proactiv+ once I’m off my medication as it sounds like it’s worked wonders for you. I’ve used Olay anti-ageing moisturisers for years. I don’t know if it works, but I like the idea of it working! Since I’ve been on my medication, it’s one of the many things I’ve had to give up. My skin definitely looks a lot older now, but I don’t put it down to the lack of Olay – it’s all the horrible things that have happened to it over the last year which have aged it.

It’s a great product for breakouts I’ve never found anything better. I don’t use all the time but for clear up. And how could I not. You are my twinny x
