I eventually got another cat Sabrina the boy. Yes he was a male cat, long story but Sabrina the teenage Witch was my favourite TV show when I got him, well her at the time. I was told he was a she and I didn’t check, you’d think with knowing how cats are bred from the age of 5 I’d know about that small detail. Anyone turned out she was a he. My husband Robert is allergic to cats, but when we moved in together he knew he was coming with me. I used to get a liquid to rub on his fur that reduced the allergies. This worked relatively well. Then Lucas was born and they were instant friends. However, tragically Sabrina ate a flower one day and it turned out to be a Lily. These are lethal to cats and he died. I was broken hearted yet again.
My Life With Cats
Cats are a wonderful pet and I love the way they are independent and yet give you so much love. I grew up in a house with loads of pets, my mum and dad bred pedigree cats, from Chinchillas to Colour Points to Devon Rex’s. These ranged for big white fluffy cats to black, pretty much hairless cats. I saw them being born from a very young age and knew how it all came about. One day I remember my mum being called into school by the teacher. Cut a long story short, they were concerned about the fact that I was telling other 5 and 6 year olds how baby kittens were made. Not ideal, but let’s face it we all have to find out some how.
My mum the crazy cat lady.
I used to get dragged to cat shows most Saturdays, which yes they are great, but are a long day and once you’ve seen 100 you’ve seen them all. I have very fond memories of spending out Saturday’s as a family and as I got older, my dad going way out of his way to embarrass me. I hated it at the time, but looking back cat shows and our weekend’s away for them has given me so many wonderful memories. I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with my parents growing up, so these times were precious and I cherish them now.
My mum and dad loved their cats and we had some Egyptian Maus and as well as Persians. But they were always my parents cats. I remember getting my very first cat Midnight. She was gorgeous, just a moggy, not pedigree like my parents, but she was sleek, fluffy and so cute. Before she arrived I ordered loads of items from Swell Pets. Lots of toys, scratching posts, a bed, dishes, the best food I could afford, everything a cat could ever want and no necessarily need. I loved her with all my heart and she was my best friend. One day I was at college and my dad picked me up to tell me she’d gotten run over. She’d run out after me in the morning and I’d not noticed. I was heartbroken.
We did get another cat after Tyler was born, but he died too. Very young and tragically of a brain hemorrhage. Very sad and we decided not to get another cat as Lucas had developed asthma. It hasn’t put me off cats and I love them. I did think maybe it was me, but after so many years of having cats live for so long and my mum still has loads of them, I resigned myself to being unlucky. I miss having a cat around. I miss having them rub up against you and come purring in your ear. They are fabulous pets and in time we will have another I’m sure of it. I just need to talk hubby round.
Did you know about Lily’s being lethal to cats? Do you have cats? I think they make great pets for children too, what do you think? I’d love to hear more about it?
