More Top Tips to make your Trip Tippity Top!
It is common knowledge that the Internet is brimming with millions of ideas about how to save money whilst gallivanting around the globe. Some are logical, for example ‘don’t buy touristy tat from the airport’, but others are just plain dated, for example the old classic ‘ask the locals’ trick. That advice should really say something along the lines of “Ask the locals, but don’t assume they speak your language, or that they’ll give you the locals price.” Luckily, Dealchecker have created a brill new guide full of money saving tips, you can find a taster below and read the full guide here.
1) Get clever with your meals
Buying food tends to eat away our holiday budgets in a big way. After all, sightseeing can be pure misery on an empty stomach. A cheeky trick for those of you staying in hotels or b&bs… Make a packed lunch from the breakfast buffet! A bacon sandwich and a yoghurt tucked away into your bag means lunch is sorted.
2) Check that roaming is off on your phone… Or better yet, leave it at home!
You’re on holiday; you don’t need to publish every single one of your activities online or text people at home. Make them miss you a little bit, save your pics, then upload them all when you get home. Phone bills can get truly extortionate during a week abroad, and have been known to take post-holiday blues to a whole new level.
3) Figure out your transport
Yes, it can be a hassle, but looking into airport shuttle companies and public transport can save you a bundle. Taxi drivers at airports can find other shmucks to rip off! If you book a shared ride from a reliable company in advice, you can still enjoy a comfy ride for a fraction of the price. As for public transport… working your way around a city by buses rather than taxi can often take you to places you wouldn’t have originally had the chance to see. Be adventurous!
4) Ask the world where to go
Tourist hotspots are all good and well, but everybody knows somebody who’s gotten lost somewhere and has stumbled across the most amazing little place. Ask around and ask online to find some fabulous free hidden gems of wherever you’re going. Whether it’s one of the few truly authentic pizzerias in Rome or a funky little art garden in Washington DC, chances are it’ll be more interesting than queuing up for half an hour to see something you can buy on a postcard.
