Things to do in Dorset with the family

25th February 2014 By Susan Mann Leave a Comment

Dorset may seem like a county for beach-goers, but it so much more than that. Whilst the beaches are some of the best in the UK, there’s a huge range of family attractions and places to visit that makes it the ideal place for a short break for you and your family.
You can explore the many museums, take a trip to an activity centre or take the little ones to an animal farm. Family cottages to rent during your stay are a great idea for those looking for a small family holiday. They offer peace and seclusion whilst still maintaining cosy, homely aspects. Here are just some places to explore during your Dorset break:
Corfe Castle
With glorious views over Purbeck, Corfe Castle is a delight for adults and children alike. Rich in history, the castle is full of hidden gems to discover. Alongside the castle is a National Trust shop, 18th century tea rooms and a visitor centre, not to mention the wildlife.
Sea Life Adventure Park and Tower
Exploring both above and below the ocean, Sea Life Adventure Park and Tower is a place which is known to bring smiles to children’s faces. With 360 degree views over Portland, Weymouth Bay and the Jurassic Coast, the park has an abundance of over 1,000 amazing creatures to introduce your little ones too. From waddling penguins to snapping crocodiles, there are plenty of animals to see to keep your kids entertained and intrigued. The park is themed with an underwater ocean tunnel, a rainforest area and shark reef, as well as providing rides and a water play area.
Brownsea Island
Sitting halfway along the South Coast of England, Brownsea Island is situated in the world’s second largest natural harbour. This picturesque nature reserve offers kids the chance to explore scouting exhibitions, with even a Smuggler’s Trail treasure chest hunt. A new cliff-top walk along Brownsea Island has led to an idyllic picnic spot for many families to enjoy.
Beaulieu
Situated in the New Forest, Beaulieu is one of those destinations which offers something for every member of the family. For families who are into their television and film, the National Motor Museum is a great place to visit. The museum offers a range of motors on site, including famous vehicles from James Bond cars to Mr Bean’s Mini. The Palace House in Beaulieu is a great place to show your kids a real example of a Victorian country house that is positively bursting with history.
