Netmums and British Gas

10th January 2014 By Susan Mann Leave a Comment

Netmums British Gas Website

Netmums have partnered with British Gas to give us mums some help and advice on keeping our homes warm and running cost effective. I love the look of the partnership site, it’s different, quirky and fun. I was clicking on the site, reading all about it.

The site has a slider which you can use to select whether you are a mum to be, have a baby, toddler, primary school age or secondary school age child at home. You can get tips on getting the most out of your energy in your home, how to save energy, encouraging your children to save energy, making it safe and keeping your home warm in the Winter. Along with many other hints and tips.

British Gas Netmums

I have three children at home just now all of whom have never known what it’s like not to have lights at the end of a switch or heating at the end of a boiler or ever had a bath in cold water. A luxury I know, but to them it’s the norm. Something I feel they take for granted. What I found interesting over on the British Gas/Netmums site was information on fun way to help and encourage your child to understand energy in the world around them. With the tips we want them to do like switch lights off when they the room. There is also an Online Engergy Game they can play which is a Generation Green education programme.

We are all trying to stick to budgets especially at this time of year, money it tight and we make our resolutions to save a pound or two. Every little bit helps. At this time of year, when the colder and longer nights have drawn in, we tend to have to spend a more on our energy bills, especially heating. Closing the curtains earlier in the evening means we can keep some extra heat in. We have blackout blinds so these usually help. On the downside we have to put the lamps on earlier for light, to counteract this we use energy saving bulbs and lower wattage, using less energy to power. High tog duvets and thick jumpers help us keep the thermostat down, but living in Scotland it’s nippy out there, especially on a cold frosty morning. It makes it harder to get out of bed when it’s cold and oh so snugly under your duvet, it’s not just me is it?

We all love our comforts, the hot water in a steaming bath, a hot toddy when we have a cold, the heating on or the warm of a fire, all of these use energy in our home. Saving a little energy helps keeps our costs down with out having to sit there with those unattractive long Johns and 16 jumpers making us look like Sumo wrestlers.

I am looking forward to using the Netmums and British Gas site to educate the boys and find out more tips on making our family more energy conscious and reducing our bills at the same time. What do you think?

In addition to all the information you can find on the site, British Gas are running a competition to win a Vue Cinema Ticket, you can enter here.
