I don’t know about you but breast examination is something I don’t do on a regular basis. I know I should do it, but I don’t think about it enough to remember or I’m too busy. However, are we really that busy that we can risk our lives. Could we maybe not tweet that one tweet about what our kids had for dinner and do a self-exam? It would take me, what, fives minutes maximum and it could give me many more years with my children. Now that is what I want.
Being the twitter addict that I am, I am intrigued by the campaign that NestlĂ© Fitness has come out with. They have generated a bra that tweets. Now this is something that catches my attention. How on earth does that work I wondered? No guys, it’s not a bra you can fiddle about with and send some tweets to your mates while you’re at it. Each time Greek celebrity Maria Bakodimou unhooks her bra, the bra sends a signal to the phone which uses the twitter account @tweetingbra and tweets a reminder to it’s followers about a monthly self-exam. Cool isn’t it?
There is a tiny little bluetooth sensor that is placed in the catch or the bra that send the signal to the phone. Technology is amazing isn’t it? Maria Bakodimou will be wearing the bra for two weeks, which started on the 19th of November, so make sure you follow @tweetingbra for those reminders. It really is something every woman should do. Did you know that breast cancer is still the most common cancer in the UK. A staggering 55,000 people are diagnosed each yet and of these there are around 400 men. We should give our men a gentle reminder to check there’s also.

Early detection is that key and woman who are diagnosed are twice as likely to survive for ten years or more. Now that is good news. Why not follow the #tweetingbra hashtag for more information on the campaign and their website has further information on how to perform a self-examination if you haven’t done one before. Handy.
Reading about these and seeing the great work the Nestle campaign is doing, it’s definitely got me thinking and I will be scheduling in some self-examination once a month from now on. It’s not something to be ashamed or embarrassed about, it’s about saving our lives. Do you do a self-examination of breasts, if so how often or if not, why not?
