Are you superstitious? I didn’t think I was until one day I came across Treasure Box and really wanted a purse from there. It wasn’t anything special, I just really liked it and I needed a purse. My other one, the zip had burst in and you know what it’s like, you pull it out of your bag with a million bits and pieces in it and out flies all your change. The twos and the ones, that you never seem to spend, all over the counter and floor of the shop. Cue red face.
I always remember my Gran sending me into a shop with the money to buy her a purse and a ten pence to put inside before I gave it to her. At the time I was too young to think anything of it. I went into the shop, bought the purse she picked out. Came outside, put the coin in and handed it to her. Why? Because I did what I was told.
Now my mother must have been told the same story when she was younger when I was a teenager my mum asked me to do the same thing for her. This time I had to ask, why not just buy it yourself? I was told, you can’t it’s bad luck. Really? What’s going to happen if you purchase the purse you picked out? I don’t really remember the answer, but I know I ended up buying a said purse and putting a silver coin in it.
I’ve been given purses from both my Gran and mum as gifts, both with silver coins. I guess this crazy superstition has rubbed off on me, as I couldn’t buy myself that purse. Crazy isn’t it?
Do you have any crazy superstitions? I know some people salute magpies, that’s one I’ve never understood. The not going under a ladder I get, what if something falls on you. Any more?
