I was asked to go to my local Asda and buy some craft materials for some craft activities. Since my boys are on their school and nursery Summer holidays, this was a perfect opportunity to get my thinking cap on and get creative with my boys.
I picked a few activities to do with the boys these included binoculars, paper mache planets, sun charms, ring toss, rainbow cloud and a hungry caterpillar necklace. I set myself a budget of £10 and headed to Asda in my lunch break at work. Asda had everything I was looking for and more.
I bought 2 packs of tissue paper, a tube of paint brushes, thread in various colours, primary colours and white paint, tubs for the paint, stuck on gems for a bit of bling and paper plates.
Hungry Caterpillar Craft
I was reading my baby girl Aria the Hungry Caterpillar book and the boys loved doing the actions. We made a Hungry Caterpillar necklace to go along with the story for added actions. To create this we painted some pasta we had in the house green, by mixed our new yellow and blue paints together. We threaded them with some of our craft thread and added some little red circles and drew faces on them. They turned out excellent, simple and looked fab.
Rainbow Craft
We cut a paper plate in half and painted the paper plate with PVA glue. We added some cotton balls we had. This created the cloud. Using some of the craft thread we stuck this to the back to hang it up using sellotape. To create the rainbow we cut the different colours of tissue paper into strips and stuck these to the back of the plate using sellotape. I think these look great hanging up on the window. The sunlight hits the tissue paper creating the perfect rainbow effect.
Sun Catcher Craft
After seeing how well the rainbow craft turned out, we decided to make something else to brighten up the window. We cut the middle bit out of a paper plate and glued different coloured tissue paper to the back of the plate. Again using thread we created a hanger for it. The boys were amazed at the effect this had when the sun shone through it projecting the colour onto the wall. Science and fun.
Binoculars Craft
The boys wanted to play at pretend spies, what do spies need? Binoculars. Getting two toilet rolls tubes, we linked them together with two elastic bands. Tyler painted his red and Lucas painted his blue. We left them to dry and then they added some sticky gems to add some decoration.
Ring Toss Craft
The last craft we created was one to keep us going for a while. We created a ring toss game. First of all we collected two kitchen roll tubes and the boys painted one red and one blue using our new paints, tubs and paintbrushes. Once dry I wrote 100 on one and 50 on the other for point scoring. We cut out the middle of 6 paper plates so that it left the ring on the outside. The boys painted these different colours and we left them to dry. Once they were all dry we went outside for a game of ring toss. These were a lot of fun and the boys are still playing with them days later.
We have loads of craft items left over for plenty more crafting fun over the Summer holidays. Thank you Asda for selling so many great craft products at affordable prices. We have had lots of family fun together.
