A Magical Holiday

13th June 2013 By Susan Mann Leave a Comment

Last year we had an amazing time in Blackpool, but before I was married and pregnant my then fiancé and I booked a holiday to Florida with his family. I’d never been before, but they had many times. I was so excited and had been looking forward to it for such a long time, I’m a huge Disney fan and could not wait. A few months before we went I fell pregnant, no surprise we had been trying for a while but it meant I couldn’t go on most of the rides. Not to worry my sister in law was also pregnant, with twins no less so we could hang out together while the rest went on the rides.
The holiday was amazing, magical and fantastic; I loved every minute of it and was very sad to come home. America is great everyone is so nice and bends over backwards to please you. The first thing we went to was Sea World where Shamu’s family of killer whales live. There are rides, you can feed the dolphins, see shows and I fed some stingrays which were a bit scary but fun. We saw the Shamu show during the day and again at night it was amazing how these big creatures can be so friendly and interact with humans on a day to day basis.

The theme parks over there are amazing; you can spend from 10 in the morning till 10 at night and still not have done nearly everything there. The weather was great, it was in the 90s most of the time and we only had some rain on three days which is supposed to be very good for this time of year as it usually rains once a day. The rain doesn’t last long and it is warm and dries very quickly not like here. The next park we visited was Universal, the only problem was that being pregnant meant I couldn’t go on many of the rides, well hardly any really but I wasn’t bothered as there is so much to do and see at all the parks.
At Universal there are streets made up to look like New York, etc, again loads of rides and shows. I went on Twister which is a kind of walk through ride where they recreate everything so that it feels like you are in a place and a twister is coming towards you just like in the film, it was amazing. I also went on Jaws which was a boat type ride in which the boat took you round and then a shark comes up several times trying to attack the boat and things and they have to shoot it.

We saw a Beetlejuice rock show here which was fun with lots of other fictional characters like bride of Frankenstein, etc. We also saw a horror make up show which was really funny. Another ride we went on here was Terminator which was a 3D show type thing and was very cool, I really like this one. Shrek 4D was another good ride I got to go on at this park, all the characters looked as if they were right at you and when they jumped into water, etc you got wet as well.

Robert and I went to a titanic exhibition which I loved as I love the whole history of the titanic. The people doing the exhibition were all in character and played there parts very well. The tickets you got for the exhibition were supposed to be passenger tickets for getting on titanic with a passenger’s name and their class and some detail about them on it. Inside the building all the rooms were made to look like a different part of the ship and in one room there was a replica iceberg which you could touch and it felt like ice. Honestly you have to see this exhibition and if you are like me and love titanic you would love this. At the end you got to see on a board whether your character survived or not and obviously there was a shop with souvenirs.
I think the Magic Kingdom was next and I was in my element, I loved this park. The whole place is amazing and the detail on everything is unbelievable. This is the park where Cinderella and her castle live. I took loads of pictures of the castle and the first thing we saw in here was a Cinderella show where she gets crowned a princess and all the other Disney prince and princesses are there to celebrate.

There are loads of things to do and see here, lots of rides and some I got to go on, the highlight is the Disney parade in the afternoon which contains all the Disney characters on floats, etc or walking and meeting the crowds. They dance to music, etc, it’s magical, and you feel like a little child again. Again you can queue up to meet your favourite character or get them to sign an autograph. There was a gorgeous Christmas shop there with all the characters done up for Christmas, I could have spent a fortune.
Just before the park closes there is a fireworks display at the castle, which is out of this world, I have never seen fireworks like it, it is amazing and to top it off Tinkerbell flies from the castle down, that was the highlight of my day I was amazed. I am such a child!!
MGM studios is another Disney park, when you first enter the park the first thing you see is Mickey’s Fantasia Hat, it’s huge. Again there are a lot of good rides here some I got to go on, one was the pirates of the Caribbean which was a small boat which took you through a setup of robots and mannequins and scenes done up like pirates of the Caribbean. There were a lot of different shops here and different Disney characters to meet. There is a really cool car stunt show, which shows you how car stunts are done in the movies and they use wee black corsa’s like mine to show you how it’s done. You also got to go on a behind the scenes tour which shows you props from famous films and TV shows and how some special effects are created. At night there is a show on an island which is amazing, there are lots of different characters, the star being Mickey of course but the most amazing part are the images they project onto large water fountains, they are unbelievable. Also at the end there are fireworks and a boat comes around with all the characters waving.

I had a funny thing happen with a toy cat that my mother in law bought me, basically it came in a basket and it had batteries in it so it looked like it was breathing. Anyway one day we got into the room and the cleaner had taken the towels away but not put any back and had made only one bed. There was a note on the bed but it was in Spanish so we didn’t know what it said, to cut it short Robert went down to reception and showed them the note. The cleaner had refused to clean the room because we had a cat, it took us ages to explain that the cat was not real and was only a toy, some people!!

I took the boys there when they were very young and don’t really remember. I hope to save up lots and lots of pennies and take all three of my children there within the next few years. When I do I’ll be using Ice Lolly  to check out good deals and if we can go somewhere else in the meantime I will be using Ice Lolly Resorts.

Where is your dream holiday?
