Video Game Review – Madagascar 3

9th October 2012 By Susan Mann Leave a Comment

Madagascar 3 Video Game

The Circus is a big thing in our house just now as my oldest Lucas who is 5 1/2 is learning about the circus as a project at school. He is learning about it from olden day circus’ of the past with animals to the present day circus’ with acrobats and stunt acts. Therefore, when we were sent Madagascar 3 for the PS3 he couldn’t wait to play it and take it into school to show his teacher it was all about the circus. Ahh to be that excited again, I love it.

Madagascar 3 the video game is based on DreamWorks Animation Madagascar 3 the film which is coming out shortly in cinemas. The game allows the player to be any of the classic Madagascar characters from Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, Melman the Giraffe or Marty the Zebra. The game follows the animals as they travel with a travelling circus across Europe trying to get back home to New York. The very funny and cool Penguins aren’t missed out in the game either, they give the player some little games which involved stunt like activities. All the characters are in there that we know and love like King Julien, Maurice and Mort and the chimps to name a few.

Lucas played the game both through Story mode and Circus mode. The Story mode was good fun where you can continue through their adventure, but I’d say this is aimed at older children or us adults who are fans of the Madagascar films, like me. Lucas got a bit bored when following along but absolutely loved the Circus mode, this section allows other players to join in and is designed as little mini games.

The story mode section has the players carrying out various missions, which includes some two player options with a split screen. You choose your favourite character and are able to roam, jumping, kicking and smashing your way through Europe. With all the landmarks, the graphics are incredible. The on screen prompts are very useful but your child needs to be able to read well before he can really play the story mode on their own. It is a lot of fun and we enjoyed it but it wasn’t Lucas’ favourite part of the game.

The mini games are fab consisting of acrobat ones, a trapeze one which is very tricky to simple yet fun games of selling items like tickets of snacks. There are lots of fun elements when playing, when you do something wrong your character throws a banana at you. Which provides hours of laughter. One of the best things for younger children is that they don’t lose a life. Nothing worse than little ones getting annoyed and they have to start again. The music is great just like the film and my little one was dancing around the room to it.

If your children are like mine and love the Madagascar films, from the catchy and fun songs to the fun and crazy characters, then they will love this game. Even for adults there is the skill and competitive options. The graphics are amazing and the controls are easy to use. I’d highly recommend the circus fun.

Madagascar 3 the Video game is available for the Wii, 3DS, DS, XBox 360 and PS3 so no matter what your gaming platform is, you can play this game which is released this month.
