At the start of the Easter holidays we packed the kiddies up into the car and took a road trip to Sheffield to see Disney on Ice’s Princesses and Heroes show at the Motorpoint Arena.
I remember seeing Disney on Ice as a child and it is one of my fondest memories of my childhood. I remember sitting there with my snow cone watching Mickey, Minnie and friends on ice skates and I was in awe of it all. I spoke about it for weeks. So when I got the chance to go again, I knew I had to take the boys.
We got there earlier and we had to buy the boys a snow cone, just like the ones I got. They of course had to have a drink and the candy floss which came with a flounder hat, which the oldest had one. We also bought some light up swords. The merchandise was expensive, well made, bright and colourful but expensive. But, it’s to be expected at these things and we didn’t go over board.
Sitting down in our seats we waited for it to start.
First out Mickey and Minnie. Our seats were excellent, we had a great few, the pictures didn’t turn out that great as it was quite dark. But you can get the idea.
The boys were amazed by the characters skating on the ice, the music, dancing and special effects. They sat in awe just like I had all those many years ago. In fact it brought a wee happy tear to my eye.
The show itself I feel was aimed more at young girls, seeing all the mini Disney Princesses was lovely, but my boys felt a bit left out. They hadn’t dressed up, but most of the characters were Disney Princesses anyway. They haven’t seen a lot of the movies, but they knew who most of the Princesses were, I had to fill them in on the Heros of some of the scenes. Rapunzel was a bit hit for them and me as it is out new favourite Disney film. The boys loved the dwarfs from Snow White and still talk about them.
The part that stole the show has to be the acrobatic stunts done on ice. These were amazing.
Everyone of us loved the show and I cannot for one wait to take the boys back again. I am hoping the next one has more of a mix of Disney characters that they know, but that’s not to say they didn’t love this one. Just they aren’t as into Disney Princesses as the little girls that were there.
Cinderella’s carriage was amazing, Tinkerbell stole my heart, she was gorgeous, funny and had her part down to a T. Also the fire breathing dragon was incredible, to do something like that on ice is amazing. The boys loved the dragon and of course poor Princess Tiana fell briefly and the boys thought this was hilarious in true boy style. She however, didn’t seem phased and carried on as normal. Hats off to these dancers, etc they made one amazing show.
Disney did it again, no-one does a show like Disney.
