Just before Christmas the nice people at Young’s Seafood and the lovely people from Fish Is The Dish sent us through some frozen fish fillets, fish cakes, fish fingers, fish pie, and easy cook fish pieces to pop in our freezer. Perfect for this time of year when the shops are busy and time is tight.
We always have fish in our freezer but its normally some salmon fillets, muscles and prawns. The problem I find with those however is they need defrosted in advance, which means remembering to take them out. The Young’s range does not need to be it can be cooked from frozen. Perfect for a busy mum when time is tight and you still want a healthy meal for your family.
I have never had fish curry before, so we thought we would make that one Sunday evening, when we had been out all day with the boys. We didn’t make the curry sauce from scratch, we normally do but as I said we’d been out all day.
We used a jar. I put the jar of sauce along with the Young’s Frozen Salmon Chunks and the White Fish Chunks into a pot and simmered.
I made some flat bread and rice to accompany the fish curry.
The finished dish.
Both my boys love curry, it wasn’t too strong and with it being fish rather than a meat, it is perfect for younger ones to chew. We loved having fish curry and have had it many times since. Both using frozen and fresh fish and we made our own sauces. But I won’t knock the jar of sauce and the frozen fish for quickness. It was tasty, quick and easy.
I also loved the Young’s Frozen Jamie Oliver Range, perfect for during the week dinners. They are very tasty, convenient and best of all made with sustainable fish, so we don’t have to worry about over fishing.
My favourite was the 2 crispy pollock fishcakes with a sprinkling of chives & a dash of cream. I had these one evening when I came in from work with some oven chips.
Fish Fingers are always a hit with the boys, another quick, easy and tasty meal. I have to say the Young’s Jamie Oliver Fish Fingers were the best I have seen. The stayed together after cooking, were light and fluffy, the fish looks and tastes amazing.
The Fish pie was another big hit with the boys and with it’s hidden veggies a big hit with me.
However, my favourite has to be the Chip Shop Cod. This is the most amazing fish frozen fish I have ever tasted. I am a fan of chip shop fish and I have to say this was even better. Really, it was. The batter is light, fluffy and incredibly tasty. The fish was meaty, light and tasty. I have bought these several times since. One of my favourite midweek meals, with some mushy peas and vinegar and some oven chips. Yummy.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the Young’s Frozen Fish range. I haven’t really used frozen fish like this before, especially ones that can be cooked from frozen. Other than fish fingers. Their entire range was delicious, cooked well and quick. I have to say it is perfect for busy mums and the prices are very reasonable too. I have bought more from this range since trying these out. I would thoroughly recommend this range.
Disclaimer:- I was sent a selection from Young’s to try out. The opinions above are my own.
