Author Interview – Kerrianne Coombes

22nd February 2012 By Susan Mann Leave a Comment

Today on my blog I have a very lovely friend of mine, Kerrianne Coombes. Her debut novel was published yesterday called Running Home. She kindly agreed to do an interview for me. Over to Kerrianne:-
1. What inspired you to write Running Home?
I had the idea for Tom’s character for a little while, and when I came up with Jo’s character, I just knew I had to put them together. And the story went from there.
2. What are your main forms of inspiration?
Music and everyday life. I love to watch people interact and my imagination just goes wild. 😉 And equally if I hear a great song that has words that inspire me, I literally can’t write the ideas down fast enough!
3. What was the hardest scene to write?
Running home just flowed. It took only three weeks to write, and there wasn’t a moment that I felt stuck. However, there is a great scene which involves Peter—Jo’ husband—and it really pushed me to be able to get into his mind…He really is a sick puppy. LOL
4. Do you edit your first draft as you go along, or do you wait until it is completed?
I write and edit either when I feel stuck, or not until I get to the end—unless it’s is a book I am having BETA’D chapter by chapter, then I might edit more often. But usually, I write it and edit after.
5. Do you write in silence or do you listen to music?
Total, and utter silence…Unless one of my kitties is purring on my lap. I am a very sociable, outgoing person, but when I have time alone, I like to be in silence. Also, I am very easily distracted, and if a great song was on, I would find myself singing and dancing, rather than writing 😉
6. What is your favourite supernatural creature and why?
OMG!! A great question. Okay, I adore shifters—especially Christine Feehan’s Leopards. But I am an angel lover. Fallen, or pure, I don’t care—I just adore them! A very interesting paranormal creature that I don’t think we have seen enough of yet…
7. Who are you favourite authors?
Ummm? This list could go on for a long time! I am an avid reader, a book nut, so I like and love many authors. But if I had to narrow down a list, it would include; Sherrilyn Kenyon, Maya Banks, Nalini Singh, Lara Adrian, Gina Showalter, Kresley Cole—see, I told you I could go on! LOL
8. What was your favourite book as a child?
Depends how old, but I do remember being obsessed with Anne of Green Gables…*Sigh* Loved those books.
9. What are you currently working on?
Well. I am currently just doing the final read through—before I send it to my publisher– of the first book in a three series of Paranormal Romances Called the Demon Tales. I signed a contract for this not so long ago, and I am very excited!! The first book is called Beauty and the Beast—The Demon Tale, and I cannot wait for people to be able to read this!!! Paranormal is my first choice in genre, so I feel totally thrilled to be able to have three books of my own, in the paranormal genre.
10. What advice would you give to aspiring and unpublished authors?
READ!!! And I don’t mean just for fun—obviously do that too. But read, analyze why the book was so good and relay it to your own writing. I love to take a section in a book that maybe made me feel happy, or sad, and then I strip it down and find out what it was in that section that made me feel so good. Geeky, but interesting xx
What a great interview, thank you Kerrianne for a great interview, some very interesting answers. I cannot wait to read this book and your subsequent books.
Here are details on Kerrianne’s book:-
Tom Cane, Ex-military man and self professed recluse turned farmer, wants nothing more from life but the chance to wallow in his own pity. The shrapnel lodged permanently in his leg a daily reminder of his failings during his last tour of duty. On a cold, rainy, British evening fate delivers a new reason to live in the form of Joanne Sloane, the daughter of a socialite and abused wife of an up and coming businessman. Desperate and in fear of her life, she flees her home and stumbles onto Tom’s land. Together their passions ignite and the need to rescue one another entangles them in a bitter fight for their lives.
