Book Review – Shimmer by Alyson Noel

29th December 2011 By Susan Mann Leave a Comment

Description:- Having solved the matter of the Radiant Boy, Riley, Buttercup, and Bodhi are enjoying a little time-off. But then Riley encounters a young ghost named Rebecca. Despite Rebecca’s sweet appearance, Riley soon learns she’s not at all what she seems. As the daughter of a former plantation owner, Rebecca is furious about being murdered during the slave revolt of 1733. Her uncontrollable anger is keeping other ghosts, who also died in the revolt, trapped in a shimmering bubble. And when Bodhi and Buttercup inadvertently fall into Rebecca’s trap, Riley is the only one who can save them.
A suspenseful and heart-warming novel about the great hereafter. . .
Review:- Riley was killed along with her parents and dog in a tragic accident. Only her big sister Ever walked away. (Ever is the main character in the authors Immortal series) .
After dying Riley along with her dog and parents end up the authors version of “heaven”. In this heaven everyone is able to get whatever they want and desire just by thinking about it. Some people  though are given special destinies and Riley is destined to be a soul catchers . Along with her faithful dog Buttercup and cute but nerdy guide Bodhi she has to set out and return lost souls to heaven. In this part Riley takes it upon herself to try and rescue Rebecca , a tragic and twisted girl whose soul is stuck on the earth plane. Rebecca is traps people in her own tragic past and makes them relive the worst moment of there lives over and over again. Rebecca traps Brody and Buttercup and its all up to Riley to save them.
These books are ok, I felt that despite having death and tragedy so involved in the story they were nothing but fluff and light. The booked lacked depth and i did not feel connected or interested in the characters in any way. I do enjoy reading fiction aimed at younger readers but this one I felt did not work . The book I think would only really be enjoyable readers to under 16s.
I don’t think I would read any other books in the series but I have the Immortal series by the same author (which this book is a companion to) and I’m  looking forward to reading that.

I am not a fan of The Immortal series by Alyson Noel so this is why I thought I’d ask someone to guest review this for me. This is a guest review by the lovely Laura. Thank you Laura.
