Two and a half weeks ago my oldest baby started school. We walked to school as a family. Me and the little brother behind.
There was a huge lump in my throat seeing him looking like the little man you see here instead of that tiny baby I brought home from the hospital.
There were tears in my eyes when we were all sitting in the main hall at the school and his name was shouted forward to go to his class. He was in a class without any of his friend from nursery who had all been put into the other Primary one class, including his twin cousins. Now we had prepared him for possibly not being with some of them but not all.
We walked out that door wondering how he would be knowing no-one. Those few hours away dragged in. At 12 O’Clock we went to see how he was getting on and got to go into the class. I needn’t have worried, here he was doing his work. Amazing how the learn these days. He was using a wipe board maker and pre-printed laminated and drawing the letter S. What a star he was.
He bounced out of the class room excitedly and showed us where is peg was and the toilets. Then went into too much detail about the toilets and taps but it was amazing to hear him all excited and happy, when I had so much anxiety in my heart for him.
He is quite a shy person, until he gets to know those around him, then he comes out his shell a little. They don’t seem to have their own desks, they swap around. I am not sure this is a good thing but he seems to like he. You ask him who he was sitting beside and he says everyone. Is this is the same at other schools? He has made some friends, he’s not one for asking names but he is getting there we have a few names out of him.
He is loving the playground, here is him with his cousins who are in the other Primary one class and his little brother, who couldn’t be left out of course.
He seems to have settled in well. They are still on half days for another week so we will have to see how he goes with full days.
How do you think it is going? I think well. Is is different from your little one’s school? How are they getting on?
