Potty Training – Week 2 & 3

18th August 2011 By Susan Mann Leave a Comment

We are in the midst of attempting to potty train my youngest Tyler who is 2 1/2. You may have read my first potty training post, it started off well, then he just said NO.
When I potty trained my oldest Lucas we used pants to begin with for in the house and Huggies Pull-ups for outwith. I tried the same with Tyler. He started to think it was the pants that were making him wet, I tried to explain but he’s so strong willed he was having none of it. So Huggies Pull-ups it is.
Huggies have a great new range which have Cars 2 on them for boys or Disney Princess’ for girls. Perfect for my little guy. You can even get stickers with them for reward charts, again a huge hit.

He had lots of fun naming the cars on the pull-ups.
We were all getting frustrated, me, his daddy, his granny and his gran and grandpa all of whom watch him throughout the week. He would just refuse, you would sit him on the potty, he would say he didn’t need and go off and piddle. The great thing about Huggie’s pull-ups is that you can see easily when they piddle as the picture disappears. It allows them to feel wet, so they will begin to find out the sensation.
Tyler loves to copy his big brother so I thought we would try to get him to stand up and piddle like his brother. He loved this, we put some popcorn in for him to aim at. It was all I had at the time. I got some toilet training balls, but eventually they flushed away. I have to say this was a huge turning point in his toilet training career.
Another turning point was the Huggies potty training app which works on the iPhone. It is free and fantastic. You enter in your child’s details on the phone and add a picture. Each time they use they potty you select whether they went, tried or didn’t go. Each time they go, they get a sticker to add to their reward chart on the screen. When they get so many stickers it unlocks a game for them to play. There are three games to unlock. Tyler’s favourite is a drawing game. The games are simple and easy for toddlers to use. The stickers are characters from Cars2 which is very popular just now. You can select which ringtone you want it to use when you choose that your child used the potty, I selected the famous “I’m a Big Kid Now”. So now every time he goes we have to sing “I’m a Big Kid Now”. I think this app has been excellent in helping with the potty training.
I would highly recommend Huggies Pull-ups they are fantastic. I would also highly recommend the Potty training app for anyone who is potty training and has an iPhone it’s free and an excellent resource.
So it’s no more nappies for us. Tyler now goes on his own, stands on the wee stool and then piddles in the toilet. He is pleased with himself and actually enjoys going to the toilet now. However the poops are another story, they are a non-starter in the toilet or potty. HELP!!!
Disclaimer:- I was sent some huggies pull-ups to help with the potty training, they did not affect my review above.
