My Baby is Growing Up – Starting School

16th August 2011 By Susan Mann Leave a Comment

Tomorrow is a huge step for us. My oldest Lucas who is 4 is starting school. This is a huge milestone for him, he will be off to spread his wings and expand his learning in more ways that he can possibly imagine right now. It is also a huge milestone for me, my first baby, my tiny little Christmas baby is growing up. Nursery I managed, barely, to cope with, but school? I am worried he won’t be my little boy any more. I know he will always be my baby and I know school is good for him, but the little selfish part of me wants to keep him my little boy forever.

Look how small and cute he was.

Ahh… He has grew into a non sleeping, temper tantrum toddler, but was so cute with it. He then became my handsome, kind and nurturing pre-schooler. He is so amazing with his brother and loves to play and laugh.
We have 5 shirts, 4 trousers, 1 pair or shoes, 3 sweatshirts, 2 polo shirts, plimsolls, gym shorts and jackets all ready. Not forgetting the infamous Mario school bag, I spent week’s searching for. The school bag is packed with his homework folder, yes he got that when they were there for a visit, I know they are quick aren’t they, we have pencils, ruler, sharpener, rubbers, pencil case and a drinks bottle. He doesn’t drink milk so I have a bottle for him for water. Have I forgotten anything?
He is in half days up until mid September when he will be in full days, so I don’t need to worry about packed lunches then. Phew. This is hard work this school stuff.
I didn’t have a good school experience, I didn’t have a good childhood at home so that carried over into school. I want more than anything for Lucas to have a good school experience and I hope we have done everything we can to prepare him for it. He is confident, but not too confident, he loves to play and makes new friends easily. He is however easily lead and tends to follow what others are doing. I hope he grows out of this, when he learns to stand on his own too feet. Girls especially love him, that’s ok for now but they better back off when he’s a teenager.
I am sure there will be many tears tomorrow, all mine, not his. Have I forgotten anything? He’s really looking forward to it, I hope it all goes well. I will keep you all posted.
Off you go into the school world honey, I am so proud of you and will be right behind you all the way.
