Description:- In this, the sensational follow-up to “The Book With No Name“, those who miraculously survived the blood-soaked conclusion to the first novel are back in town for another massacre to remember. Young lovers Dante and Kacy, hapless bartender Sanchez, Peto the Hubal monk and the mysterious Jessica – each will be drawn into the violent vortex surrounding the Bourbon Kid, the supernatural killer who is himself now being hunted. Hot on his heels are several vampire gangs, the US Secret Service, a couple of werewolves, some corrupt cops, and the Dark Lord himself, and none will rest until he is dead. But the Kid has vengeance of his own to wreak…Even more gripping, creepy, exciting and funny than its predecessor, “The Eye of the Moon” is a relentless page-turner guaranteed to leave you on the edge of your seat. And, as the body count climbs on the dusty streets of Santa Mondega, who will be the last one standing?
Review:- This is the sequel to The Book With No Name, there are many similarities , the extent of violence, the myriad of characters, the pace to name but a few. There are obvious improvements , this time the author has given the semblance of a plot with some characters playing a more central role to the one they played in The Book With No Name. e.g. Dante and others are playing initially a less sensational role e.g. the Bourbon Kid he previously rampaged and killed just for the fun of it but as this novel progresses his motive is revenge.
The supernatural individuals, have increased in ‘species’ to include vampires, werewolves and mummies. Thrown in for good measure are hookers, a monk, musicians a great deal of swearing and many references to the holy grail and immortality. There is more organisation in this novel in that each group has a definitive identity a ‘clan’ with it’s own emblem not unlike bikers with all the rivalry that goes with it .One interesting subplot is a love story between Dante and his girlfriend Kate
As with it’s prequel it is frantic, high speed and extremely bloody. The descriptions of events are very graphic and in some places tied in with the violence is a great deal of black humour and swearing. I didn’t think it could keep up with my love of The Book With No Name, but it did. This one is laugh out loud funny in bits.
If you like Supernatural, blood, guts and a face paced, funny and entertaining novel, this is for you. However it is not for the feeble hearted or those without a sense of humour.
Disclaimer:- I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, which I have given.
