This week the prompt is We’re going on a word hunt. This means that we should pick a word we see that inspires us. Since it is Burns day yesterday, it got me thinking how much I love the country I live in. I think the yummy haggis, whiskey and shortbread for dinner helped. So I have decided to write a poem on what Scotland means to me. I hope you like it.
The frosty mornings,
The grass glistening,
The spiderwebs like glass,
The puffs of air,
The cold sunshine.
The castles towering,
The high cliffs they are upon,
The magnificent building,
The turrets spiraling upwards,
The imagination running wild.
The beautiful sights,
The glassy lochs,
The monster hiding beneath the water,
The green trees and shrubbery,
The salmon jumping.
The haggis all spicy and warm,
The whiskey chinking in the glass,
The shortbread buttery and yummy,
The honey gooey and sticky,
The tablet sugary and sweet.
I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
I love this. I have fallen in love with Scotland myself lately – you live in a beautiful country and I live that you are so proud of it 🙂 x
Love it 🙂 Scotland has always been one of my favourite places – we used to frequent it on family holidays – and your poem sums it all up perfectly using all the senses. Just brilliant :D*needs to get writing her entry – it's still an idea and a blank page*
I so enjoyed that it sums up Scotland beautifully! x
Beautiful poem. Scotland is on my list of places to see.. and you've only made me want to visit more. 🙂
Beautiful poem Susan, made me want tablet though mmmmm and want to go a weekend break somewhere up north hehe xxx
Beautifully written poem Susan!
I'm afraid my overriding memory of Scotland is midges… I got eaten alive and came home looking like an extra from Star Trek. If only my experience of Scotland had been as nice as your poem!
Thank you for all your lovely comments. I'm sorry @libertyfallsdown you didn't have a good time in Scotland. Come back again it will be better, no midges in the winter.
We go to Scotland every year and it is a beautiful country. I always feel taken back in to a different time and place when life was simpler and there were no modern trappings. I guess the place we stay in helps promote those feelings as it is remote and rustic. Still it is a lovely and place and you have every right to feel lucky to live there.
