Description:- Some vampires are good. Some are evil. Some are faking it to get girls. Awkward and allergic to the sun, sixteen-year-old Finbar Frame never gets the girl. But when he notices that all the female students at his school are obsessed with a vampire romance novel called Bloodthirsty, Finbar decides to boldly go where no sane guy has gone before-he becomes a vampire, minus the whole blood sucking part. With his brooding nature and weirdly pale skin, it’s surprisingly easy for Finbar to pretend to be paranormal. But, when he meets the one girl who just might like him for who he really is, he discovers that his life as a pseudo-vampire is more complicated than he expected. This hilarious debut novel is for anyone who believes that sometimes even nice guys-without sharp teeth or sparkly skin– can get the girl.
Review:- This book was a quick, light hearted read, which was humerous and topical but I wasn’t feeling it. There were a lot of quotes made about current Vampires, authors and tv shows which made it seem topical but I just felt Finbar was a bit of a sap, I didn’t even feel sorry for him. I’m far from heartless, but just didn’t like him. I feel bad about saying that but this book just wasn’t for me.
Finbar, felt hard done to. His twin brother was popular, athletic and had the looks. Everything he didn’t. So he decided to use the fact that vampires were popular with teenage girls to his advantage. However, it doesn’t quite go to plan.
There is a lot of bullying going on in the book, which doesn’t get addressed. It seems to be accepted and that re-inventing yourself and moving school is the way to go. Having a name like Finbar wasn’t a good start in his life, but this book could have had a much better message than it did.
The ending give an indication to a sequel about his twin brother, pretenting to be a werewolf to get girls. Really… come on. I won’t be in the queue for this one.
I think it was funny and there were several times that I did laugh out loud but overal I would give it a miss.
Thank you to the wonderful International Book Tours who sent me this book to review.
