Book Review – Diary of a Wimpy Vampire

Diary of a Wimpy Vampire by Tim Collins
Description: Think Twilight meets Adrian Mole and you’ve got this brilliantly funny parody. Unfortunately, Nigel became a vampire at the awkward age of fifteen, and must spend eternity coping with acne, a breaking voice, and an ineptitude with girls…In this, his excruciatingly funny diary, Nigel chronicles his increasingly desperate attempts to be noticed by the love of his life, Della Sparrow, the constant mortification caused by his vampire parents (not to mention the worry that they might accidentally eat one of his friends), and the frustration one feels when you’ve got the whole of boring eternity stretching out in front of you and you can’t even have a lie in (vampires don’t sleep). Forced to hang out with the Goths and emo kids due to his pale skin and social awkwardness, and constantly battling his embarrassingly overwhelming desire to sink his fangs into Della’s neck, will Nigel ever get his girl? Fantastically witty and hugely entertaining, this fun and accessible diary will appeal to any fan of “Twilight” or “Adrian Mole”, teenage or otherwise…
Review: This book was such a fun read. I love the quirky, sarky attitude and the doodles. I read this book in one sitting. The diary format allowed the book to flow, but you could dip in and out of it with ease.
Nigel is a typical teenage boy, who is bored, doesn’t fit in at school, thinks no-one will ever love him and is embarrassed by his parents. But, Nigel is different, his family are different. They are all vampires but not the sparkly fluffy ones we are accustomed to at present, they have fangs and they drink blood. They have urges to drink human blood. So not only does Nigel have urges for girls, but he has urges to drink their blood to contend with.
Nigel has been trapped as a 15 year old for 100 years. His little sister has more vampire powers than he does and that’s just down right embarrassing. She wants to be a princess and his parents look a bit like they stepped out of the Adams family house, cape and all.
Poor Nigel, will he ever get the girl he is lusting after?
There were so many times in which I was reading this book and laughed out loud. My hubby looking at me like I was crazy, I just had to read it aloud to him. He was then laughing along with me.
I cannot wait to hear what Nigel and Chloe do next, in the sequel to this book.
Everyone should read this book, it’s a lighthearted, fun and topical book.

Thank you very much to the lovely people at Michael O’Mara Books for sending my this hilarious book. And thank you to Tim Collins for writing this and making me laugh out loud.

Check out my interview with Tim Collins on my blog Friday.

Aww! This sounds so cute and fun! It sounds really different too – a vampire who isn't suave and sexy? Who knew they existed! lol! I can't wait to read your interview with the author!
