Book Review Dracula’s Tomb

29th July 2010 By Susan Mann 2 Comments

Dracula’s Tomb by Author/Illustrator: Colin McNaughton
I received this book as part of my Vampire prize from the lovely people at Candlewick Press.  I loved it so much I had to share it.
Description:Enter, if you dare, the bloodcurdling (and sidesplitting) world of Transylvania’s most infamous gourmet.
Open the Velcro tabs on this coffin-shaped tomb — er, tome — for a peek at some little-known details of Dracula’s infancy, school days, cherished belongings, and lively nightlife. Peer inside a vampire’s fridge and closet, peruse photos of little Drac with boyhood friends, meet his many pets, and get a taste, so to speak, of what eternal life is like for the world’s biggest pain in the neck. Just beware of the final spread — who knows what creepy consequences might spring up if visitors don’t obey the signs?
Featured in Dracula’s Tomb:
* Drac-Facts
* My School Days
* My School Report
* My Pets
* Holiday Snaps
* Dracula’s Fridge
* My Wardrobe
* My Stuff
* A Night in the Life of Count Dracula
Featuring a frightening pop-up finale with sound effects!
Review: My favourite thing about this book, apart from it having vampires in it, is that it is suitable for my little ones. Therefore it’s something interesting to me to get excited about and make the noises when telling the story.
There are so many cute and wonderful things in this book, where to begin… I love the stories about Dracula’s early days, his holidays for example with pictures of him in a swimsuit. The wardrobe is funny, with his capes, etc. Even his school reports will give you a giggle.
My little ones are a young to appreciate this book, but I will be keeping it for years to come.
The pop up section is the best I have ever soon. Not only does Dracula pop up to give you a fright, along with his worm friends but the coffin actually creeks. You heard me right creeks. It’s awesome.
This book is a must have for Vampire fans both young and old.
