Dappers is a 30-minute comedy drama for BBC Three and has been written by Catherine Johnson (Mamma Mia!). I was lucky enough to receive a preview copy from Mammoth Screen Productions.
Dappers is about Faye (Ty Glaser – IT Crowd) and Ashley (Lenora Critchlow – Being Human, Sugar Rush), two Bristolian single mums…these Dappers share laughs, banter and bust-ups with a chirpy resolve and two fingers to the snot-bags who’ve never dreamed.
The opening scene is one of the funniest I think. I love the singing, carry-on and the babies so cute. The pair struggle to make ends meet on benefits, with their on-off baby daddy’s, so they try all sorts of money-making schemes.
The other characters are the crazy couple who live downstairs, Wendy (Gwen Taylor) and Barney (Eddie Large). There is also a posh irritating couple who live next door, who clearly don’t approve of their living situation.
I enjoyed the pilot, it had a few laughs and I wanted to learn more but found the accents a bit annoying.
Dappers is a drama pilot and is to be shown on BBC Three on Thursday 10th June at 9.30pm but can be previewed on the BBC Three website a week earlier – 3rd June 2010.
