The Gallery 10 – Paint A Picture Of The World We Live In

5th May 2010 By Susan Mann 13 Comments

This week’s theme on Tara’s The Gallery has painted a picture of the world we live in.

The hidden bits, the bits you feel are special and people should know about. The bits people wouldn’t necessarily see. It could be a picture of where you live. Somewhere you love to visit. Somewhere you’ve been on holiday. Somewhere you want to return to.

I chose Leeds Castle, in the small village of Leeds in Kent. Not Leeds the city. I love castles and history, but this is my all-time favourite castle. Not only is it gorgeous, on beautiful grounds, have amazing wildlife but it holds some very special memories for me.

In 2002 I was in a hospital in Kent for five weeks, another story for another time. My dad, my rock was with me. It was my 25 birthday weekend and I got a pass for a day, he took me to Leeds castle. It was such a nice place to visit. My dad and I used to visit a lot of castles, museums, art galleries, etc but this way by far our favourite. And our last visit.

The castle grounds have an aviary, a maze, a grotto, a golf course and what may be the world’s only museum of dog collars.
This was the one and only time I have ever seen black swans. Not sure they don’t dye them this colour. Only kidding, they are born that way.
I would recommend Leeds Castle to everyone, young or old. I only wish I lived closer.
Check out the other entries on this week’s The Gallery over at Tara’s Blog.

I've only seen black swans at the zoo! This looks like a beautiful place – I don't know Kent at all, I've been there twice I think. It's such a long way from me, but then I'm sure that people from larger countries think that statements like that are ridiculous!
