This week’s The Gallery prompt is Buildings on the lovely Tara’s Sticky Fingers Blog.
There are so many beautiful buildings out there, one of my favourites was Glasgow Art School with it’s beautiful Rennie Mackintosh architecture. The one I thought about sharing this week is a building that I remember from my childhood. It’s nothing special and doesn’t look like much, but it sticks out in my mind and I snapped a picture of it recently. This building is in my home town and it has a thatched roof, something you rarely see these days. I am told it is terrible for maintenance and leaks a lot, but from the outside I find it fascinating.
Why do I love this building? Well, do you remember watching Alice in Wonderland as a child? I loved this film and this reminds of the part in the film where Alice grows and her head is through the thatched roof. Ok, you might think I’m a bit mad, but as a child this is how I imagined it. It has stuck with me all these years.

It might not look the same to you, but do you know what I mean? What memories like this stick out from your childhood?

That is a beautiful house, we have lots of Thatched still near where I live and they take a lot of work. I have a couple of houses like this from my childhood that reminded me of stories I was told.
I love this xx
Fantastic post. I can understand why it reminds you of Alice in Wonderland.
What a pretty thatched house. I would be nervous of thatch because of ‘creatures’!!
Before I even read your post, I looked at the photo and thought of Alice in Wonderland! x
Ha ha love how a building has provoked such a vivid childhood memory! I remember living in a 3 storey house when I was about 6. Mum hated it because the living room was on the first floor and it was quite unusual back then. I loved it. Felt like a big adventure ALL the time!
