Books are a huge part of my life, they always have been and I love that they are a huge part of my children’s lives. All three of my children love to read and I hope they continue on their journey of magic, hope and a little mystery around the corner you get with books. I can’t imagine a world without books can you?
I am a big fan of Phil Earle and Scottish Book Trust; they do so much for children in and around Scotland and encouraging their love for reading. Phil Earle’s had been touring secondary school in Scotland talking about his love of reading, writing and his latest book Bubble Wrap Boy as part of The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour. He has visited schools in Falkirk, East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire. If only I could pass for a teenager again, I’d have tried to sneak in. Ok, maybe not. But wow, getting to meet a real life successful young adult author at school, how inspiring would that have been?
Phil met over 1,500 pupils and visited 12 different schools, which coincidently smashed the record for books sales on a secondary school tour. He really knows how to relate to his audience and get them engaged in reading. After listening to Phil and his story about how he became a writer at the age of 26, everyone came away inspired to either try their hand at writing or read some of his books. With school librarians having huge waiting lists to borrow Phil’s books after his visit, can’t be a bad thing can it?
Bubble Wrap boy is the fourth book Phil Earle has published, albeit this is his first aimed at a slightly younger audience. It’s about a boy called Charlie Hann, who has a friend called Sinus. Charlie has a secret, he is great at skateboarding, but overcoming his clumsiness and overprotective mother is going to prove challenging to say the least. But someone else is hiding a secret and that is going to knock him off his board. This book is all about family, friendships and about how your life can be turned upside down at any given minute. It’s an excellent read for both young adults and adults will love it too.
I wish I could enter this myself, but I am lucky enough to have a signed copy of Phil Earle’s Bubble Wrap Boy book to give away to one of my lucky readers. Will it be you?
