Many of us have made a number of New Year’s resolutions, but we all have a problem with sticking to them as the year progresses. No matter what the resolution is, be it to quit smoking, lose weight or save money; the longer we try to do it, the harder it gets. So, here are some hints and tips to help you ensure your New Year’s resolutions remain a success.
Psychologists have found that we are most likely to succeed in our new year’s resolutions if we ensure we break up our goals into smaller chunks which are time based. For example – if you wish to lose weight, give yourself the goal of losing a stone by March.
Just one goal
Make just one resolution; your chances of success are a great deal larger as you can place all of your time and energy into just one goal.
Avoid previous ones
Never give yourself the resolution you made and failed to keep last year; this will set you up for disappointment and frustration.
Think about it
Try not to give yourself the New Year’s resolution that all of your friends are doing – think about what you really want out of life and go for it.
It is important to tell your friends and family about your goals; they can help steer you in the right direction. Also, they are more likely to tell you not to do something when you are most tempted to break your resolution.
You should regularly remind yourself of the benefits you will receive by achieving your resolution, writing them down on a piece of paper and sticking it on your desk or to your fridge can really help keep you motivated.
It is so important to reward yourself when you succeed at something; a good way to do this is to buy yourself some flowers at the end of each successful month. Be sure to choose your favourite flowers; you can get affordable quality flowers from serenataflowers.com – also, place them somewhere you will regularly see them to remind yourself of your success.
Don’t get yourself down
Be prepared to have a few setbacks – we are all human. So, don’t beat yourself up about this, just see it as a learning curve.
With these hints and tips in mind, you are sure to succeed in 2015, good luck!
