One Boy And His Love Of Pigs

Anyone who follows me on twitter will know how much my youngest Tyler, who turned 3 last month, is obsessed with pigs. He loves them, soft ones, toys, clothes, in books, the television, you name it he loves it. I have no idea where this obsession came from as his favourite toy from when he was a baby was a stuffed penguin he got at Edinburgh zoo. He still has it and it still goes to bed with him, but he is surrounded by his piggy entrouage.

We tried to take him to Tollcross Farm which is quite close to us for his birthday as we were told they had some pigs. We went and they weren't out. He wasn't too upset but kept saying piggy over and over again. I felt so guilty and that I'd ruined his birthday, but explained we would go again soon. So on Saturday we decided to make the trip to see if the pigs were out. I made sure I pre-warned him that they might not be out as there was a lot of hail and some snow. He was ok with that but you could see his little face light up when we told him where we were going.

I asked him what he would like to wear. Big mistake. He promptly went to the wardrobe and pulled out his piggy outfit. "Mummy I want to wear this to see the piggies." Ok, how can I argue with the cutness of this outfit.  His dad on the other hand didn't think we could leave the house with said dressing up outfit on. But was amazed when no one seemd to bat an eyelid at it.

The big moment, he finally got to see a real live pig.

Look at that little face. He was so happy.

I think this one of his most important moments of his life. My little boy meeting his first real life pig. It's one of those moments for the baby record book, isn't it?

Tyler didn't understand why they weren't pink and had curly tails. I explained they don't look like the toys and the tv ones in real life. Plus this one had hair. He also wanted to know why it was eating sand. I explained it wasn't sand but their dinner. Not sure what it was, but it wasn't pizza or spaghetti like Peppa and George eat.

His obession goes from hats.

To cuddly toys & pillows, and this is only a small selection. I couldn't fit them all in. He must have well over 20 cuddly pigs, he has picked them up from little ones visiting places to his brother bringing him them back from visiting.

When we go to the ceramic painting place that's all he wants to paint, we have a collection.

Let's not forget the piggy toys, I didn't include the Peppa Pig ones we have collected.

His favourite show is Peppa Pig and his favourite book is the Three Little Pigs, but anything that has any pigs in will be read again and again. I bought him Pigwitchery  for his Christmas which he loves. And a pig which walks on a lead. He was so easy to buy for at Christmas and so grateful and hugged each and everyone of those pigs. His favourite food is sausages, but he doesn't know where they come from. I was going to tell himi but hubby corrected me and said the supermarket. I will save that one for another time.

This was a magical day for my little boy, one which I will cherish forever. How one little boy became so obsessed with these cute little critters I do not know, but I hope it continues and I will encourage it to some extent. I draw the line at having several in my kitchen, whcih are alive.

Do your children have an obsessions with animals, tv shows, or anything like that?
